getting pickles in nong khai!

Postby scouse » June 16, 2008, 2:07 pm

called into Nong Khai Direct supply the other day for some of the usual farang eats!
What i was pleased to see was branston and piccalilli, its not the big brand stuff but a brand called "Salvador Deli" (very clever!)
anyway, as it was a lot cheaper than others ive seen i bought a tub of each. Both were excellent,as good as the real mcoy id say.
I was chatting to the guy who runs the shop,Mark and he said he was expecting more product, mango chutney, home made soups and the like from the same manufacturer, try as i might though he wouldnt let me know where he was getting it from!
Anyway, well done Mark for bringing out the branston.
Ive been living on cheese butties for the last week!

What foodstuffs do you pack in your suitcases and bring in, that you can't find in Udon Thani or Nong Khai?

I must try to read topic headings more carefully.

I thought this thread was about "getting pickled, (drunk) in Nong Khai"

I thought it was about the dog that found the 'stolen' world cup in 1966 in a garden hedge, The little fellow had run off with a soi dog he met in bangkok to nong khai, and his owner went to fetch him, but no no it is about The Bloke that owns a company called 'Virgin' ...in-it..? :boogle:

OK, tell this American pickle lover, what's the difference between a "branston" and a dill pickle. :D

FYI, Rudy's Bakery on Meechai Rd. in Nong Khai has homemade dills. 042-413072 or 089-577-9143. His other deli items and breads & pastries are good too.
