Getting Visa at Laos Consulate in Khon Kaen

Postby jorg » August 31, 2009, 3:59 pm

Hello there,

I'm thinking of getting a visa for Laos in advance in Khon Kaen (so I can take the international bus to Laos). Does anybody know if there is a waiting time to get this visa (like you can get it the next day), or do you get it directly when you apply for it?

I cannot find this information on this forum, so maybe one of you can help me.

Thanks,

Jörg

Hi Jorg,

I've done it twice from the Laos Consulate in Khon Kaen.
All very simple, fill out the forms, pay the fee and its all done in 10 minutes.

Hi,
Jorg, Don't know how long you are going to Lao for, you did not say, if going for less than 30 days you can get a Visa on arrival that lasts up to 30 days. Depending what country you come from the cost at the Lao border for crossing is between 30 and 40 U.S. dollars. U.K. is 35 between the hours of 0800Hrs and 1600Hrs. Between 0600Hrs and 0800Hrs also 1600Hrs and 2200Hrs when border closes it is 1 dollar more to pay staff overtime, or so the notice says. Did this last month.
Anyway have a good trip and let us know how it went.
Cheers Doug.

The International Bus does not wait for you at the border whilst your visa on arrival is processed so I think this is why Jorg is wanting to get his visa in Khon Kaen beforehand.

Hi Douglas,

Thanks for the information, what Zidane is saying is correct. Don't know how long I'm going, but it will be less than 30 days. I know I don't save time (or even money) by getting the visa in Khon Kaen, but that's no problem for me. I just want the direct bus from Udon to Laos.

But your extra information is much appreciated. If not for me, maybe for somebody else browsing this forum.

Update: Went to Khon Kaen today, and it went exactly like Prenders88 said. Filled the form, paid the fee and got the visa within 10 minutes.
