Gillette Shaving Cream

Postby parrot » June 12, 2010, 3:02 pm

Don't get all worked up in a lather over this, but the beauty supply shop that's about 50ft before and on the same side as Maya Restaurant has 14.75oz cans of Gillette Shaving Cream for 169 Baht. Three different flavors. I've seen the Asian style tiny cans of shaving cream in the various department stores, but never the industrial western size.
And, no....I own no stock in Gillette nor any business interest in the beauty supply store.

Why not use gel, sticks way better to your skin.

I changed a couple of years ago, very reluctantly but got addicted since.

I'd go with Peterplay on this one, - Gatsby Shaving GEL, far better and far more effective than shaving foam, and about a third of the price of Gillette Shaving Foam. ;) :D

I agree about gel. Gatsby in Thailand, or King of Shaves brought back from the UK. Boots do a nice gel aslo.

Hi,
You can get these large cans in all the supermarkets. ie. Tesco, Carrefour, Big-C etc. I myself use Nivea Sensitive shaving foam, comes in a 200ml, 193g aerosol at about 160B. Noticed they have large Gillette foam in the new Tescos, near airport last week, but was a bit dearer than Nivea. I find Nivea great.
Cheers Doug.

A full can of Gillette shaving cream costs about the same as two Gillette razor blades. WTF? (350B for 5)

Must be one of those luxury, imported items only the rich farangs buy ... :(

"200ml, 193g aerosol at about 160B"

versus 311ml, 418g (14.75oz) aerosol at 169.

Hi,
PLEASE parrot enlighten us as to what foam shaving cream you can get in a 311ml can in Udon for 169B. Also where is the outlet that sells it. Seeing we are talking about Gillette Sensitive skin foam, I would be interested in buying it at that price. Will save me some money.
Cheers Doug.
Just been to Tescos, could not find that size and price. Will try Old Tescos, Big-C and Carr. this afternoon.

Doug,
Metric measurements aren't my strength........the can is 14.75oz/418 gm......convert 14.75oz to milliliters = 436.
The directions to the store are in my first post above.

Gillette Shaving Cream

At the risk of inciting the gel versus foam argument again, I picked up two more cans of 14.75oz Gillette shaving foam from the same shop next door to Maya Restaurant yesterday, at the same 169 Baht price.
As happens in Thailand, the 33% free can is the same price as the regular can. But either way, it's a good deal.

Gillette Shaving Cream

Postby douglas » September 14, 2011, 1:57 pm

Hi,
Tried the Gillette Foamy, Lemon and Lime, a couple of years back. Was in BKK, forgot my Nivea shaving foam, that i normally use. Used it once, I have a heavy beard and i was not impressed with it. Found the container yesterday, packing for embassy run to BKK. again, still full, minus one shave. Shaving sticks remind me to much of the 1950's with all the messing with a brush etc. I prefer a aerosol
Nivea sensitive shaving foam, 193g/200ml can, at about 160B, from Tescos. works well for me, so i'm sticking to it. But everybody to their own. What works for one might not work for another. If you find one, that works for you, stick to it.
Cheers doug.

Parrot, I'm not familiar with the Maya Restaurant. Can you enlighten me with specific directions?

Cheers!

Gillette Shaving Cream

Postby semperfiguy » September 14, 2011, 3:06 pm

This shaving cream is one of the biggest rip-offs that I have seen in Thailand. Back in the States I can buy that 418 gram can of Barbesol shaving cream for $1, so call it 30 baht. I buy the generic Gillette Foamy from Big-C, and it's 175 grams, made in Thailand and costs 95 Baht, so call it $3.17 per can.

But the thing that really gets me riled up is the cost of lady's Nivea products or any simple body lotion product. My wife buys the Citra body lotion, but only if it's on sale. Regular price is around 165 baht for the larger size, and the stuff is nothing but watered down crap that I could buy in any Dollar Store in America for ...you guessed it...$1 compared to $5.50 for Citra. It's manufactured locally, so I can't fathom what in the world would make it so much more expensive compared to a similar product manufactured in the US. The inconsistency in product pricing and value for money spent is becoming more of a problem in Thailand. I push the grocery cart when we go shopping and I pre-program my cart to stay clear of the pharmacy/toiletries section of any store. That's the only way I can manage my blood pressure and my budget at the same time!
