Well OK 'series' is too strong a word, but I did tell you all about 'Fences'.
This is another of those small things that you used to be able to do in Windows & then it has slowly disappeared as new version came out & is now impossible under Windows 7.
Basically it is the ability to see just what files/directories on any particular computer drive are taking up all the space.
It is called
Folder Size
& is freeware & downloadable from here:
http://www.mindgems.com/products/Folder ... -Size.html
It is a minute program size wise, but none the worst for that. That did take quite a while with my 1TB drive, but I was just looking on the net while it did it...
When you have installed it a screen looking very much like the Explorer screen appears. You just select which drive you want to examine & it goes away & gets the details for you.
The attached is the detail it did for me on my external drive that I am running out of space on.
As you can see the second largest directory on the drive is called 'Backup'. I had actually forgot that I had that directory on there as it was something that I did before I moved from Windows XP to 7 to protect some data - which I now have reloaded successfully already..
The detail within the directories can be 'driven down' to individual files just by clicking on the + . The files within the directory will then be sorted largest to smallest - including any sub directories which are sorted alphabetically but clearly show the size they are using...
As you can see there does appear to be a small issue with dates when I used it...I am not sure why that is, or what it is. It didn't especially concern me for how I was using it but I could see that it could do if you had a number of similar files & wanted to delete maybe the oldest - although you have to Windows Explorer to do any deleting anyway..
