GPS for udorn

some gps locations for food and accomodations, along with other necessities, transportation, hospital. obviously not complete, and if on list, doesn't mean an endorsement, although most i have visited and return to. just in case you know you are close but still can't see what you are looking for, this might help.

I am curious to know if you are using the local datum for Thailand


Most handheld GPS units default to WGS 84 (though can add user defined datum)

Thailand uses the Everest 1830 Ellipsoid and Indian 1975 datum

The three parameter shift to WGS 84 is

Dx 209 Dy 818 Dz 290.

This basically means you could end up in BOY BOY BAR instead of MOJOs

I've been wanting one for the village rides and general touring on the bike, but I haven't seen anything that I trust yet. Anyone got some insight, since I have no idea about them at all.

way too much time on my hands, if there are errors, let me know. as TC points out, my settings may be off, i'll check my gps and see what i have it set on, if i can figure that out.

don't go looking for the bed, i think those coordinates dump you in the mekong on the far east side of nong khai province. trying to keep the stalkers at bay.

will add some more next time bored and out and about, like new taco and down under bar locations. if anyone needs to know a places' coordinates, let me know and if not too far off the beaten track, will note them down for you.

yes, i bought if for scuba diving, to find wrecks, and if out and about, especially in a park, just in case i loose my bearings, i can find my way back before stars and snakes come out.

checked my settings, it is fairly user friendly, East Asia and Thailand settings. the default in the book says WGS84, not sure if that auto changes or even needs to with settings. the numbers represent lat/lon,
using degrees/minutes (degmin)

that's about all in know, entry level model, Mag. 310, no mapping, which would be useless here anyway. does let me know my spedometer on car is way off though, and that i just passed my turn again to go back to the hotel, another u-turn.

I think that your coordinates are off a bit. I have a WAAS enabled handheld that I use to track my travels all over the world and I got something a little bit different for one of the same places that you listed.

As a check you can also use Google Earth. I put in your coordinates for the shopping center and guess where that Lat/Lon would have put you.......... RED SQUARES

Do you know the coordinates for Kut Chap? I have spent many hours sucking down beers and trying to follow roads and find it on Google earth. It is alittle hard though since the resolution is not yet the greatest.
