Certainly a big game at the Reebok Stadium for both teams as Sheffield United should have a comfortable victory at home to Northampton at Bramall Lane.

LEAGUE 1 TOP 4,Played,Points

1.Scunthorpe 23 48
2.Sheff Utd 23 47
3.Bolton 23 46
4.Rochdale 24 42

Bolton Wanderers 2-1 Scunthorpe United

Jon probably happy to be away in the sticks!! The Iron were unlucky not to win this one though, let alone not to even get a point out of the game...
Promotion race would seem to go down to Bristol Rovers in 10th.

Scunthorpe lost to a goal in the 4th minute of injury time after being the best team for most of the second half.
And a double whammy with Sheffield United scoring their winner in the 89th minute.

Today,in the Conference,Macclesfield entertain league leaders Tranmere Rovers and Forest Green host Torquay.
Some sad news with the former Port Vale and Macclesfield skipper,Matt Carragher, passing away aged just 40. RIP.

Forest Green Rovers 5-5 Torquay United
Macclesfield Town 4-2 Tranmere Rovers
FC United of Manchester 1-1 Altrincham
Certainly some New Year Day goals!! :D
Forest Green and Torquay had played on Boxing Day & that game produced 7 goals, this one went 3 better as the points were shared. It keeps Green in 3rd. place though.
Macclesfield cause Tranmere to drop to 2nd. as they come from behind at half time. It puts the home side up to 8th. place & all those above have played at least 1 game more..

An excellent win for Macclesfield over Merseysides second team which keeps the Silkmens outside hopes of the play offs alive. =D>
Forest Green look to be blowing it,similar to Dagenham & Redbridge......York bottom of the league ! :?
The title looks to be between Lincoln City and Tranmere.......Eastleigh an outside bet for the play offs.

Sell out at Elland Road today for the visit of Rotherham (never thought I would say that!). Another win and we will nearly be safe from relegation!

Blackburn v Newcastle today........... what a difference 20 years make

20 years ago today, Blackburn were reigning English champions and Newcastle were seemingly likely to replace them, leading the PL table by 7pts with a game in hand after beating Arsenal 2-0.

Oh dear, well apart from Leeds cementing their place in the play offs, not too much to shout about there !

Brighton now 2 points ahead of Newcastle at the top of the Championship.
Scunny now 4 points behind Sheffield United at the top of League 1.
Cheltenham 1 point from safety at the bottom of League 2 where the club just above them,Notts County, have sacked manager John Sheridan after 9 straight defeats.
But,looking on the bright side,Macclesfield fans and many followers of other Conference sides always enjoy a trip to Cheltenham.....a nice part of the world ! :-$

And the Gills become the next in a long line of clubs who have parted company with their manager

Justin Edinburgh is now looking for a new position along with many others. At least he lasted almost 2 years in which time Gillingham went from a side looking for promotion to the Championship to a side looking over their shoulders at relegation to League 2

:irked: You know when you just take an instant dislike to someone .....

26 November 2016: Championship title hopefuls Newcastle enjoy the majority of possession and chances against struggling Blackburn Rovers but lose 1-0 after a second-half strike from Charlie Mulgrew.

2 January 2017: Championship title hopefuls Newcastle enjoy the majority of possession and chances against struggling Blackburn Rovers but lose 1-0 after a second-half strike from Charlie Mulgrew.

The Scotland international has only scored twice for Owen Coyle's men since joining from Celtic in the summer but his goals have brought his side six points -

Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino has sold 50% of his stake in the club to Italian businessman Andrea Radrizzani

The Iron go back into second as Bolton were drawing in the Cup. Sheffield United beat the also ambitious Southend to stay 4 points clear at the top.
Rovers also close back up at the top as Lincoln City are also drawing in the Cup.

Superb home win by SCUNNY highlighted above by Bob ... moves them back into second behind the Blades who must be favourites to take one of the 2 auto promo places ... very entertaining game at Glanford park by all accounts .

Elsewhere ..twas FA cup day and some cracking games there were too ... more today hopefully .
