Hello all - new member

Hi to you all

I have just registered on your forum and thought it would be nice to introduce myself. I currently reside in the UK in Barnsley, South Yorkshire (someone has to live here). I have regulary followed your forum for I am a frequent vister to Udon. Yes, you have probably guessed I am blissfully married to an Udon girl. She has lived with me in the UK for six years and is now a British citizen. We visit Udon about every 8 to 10 months and stay for approximatly one month at a time.

I am 49 yrs of age and work for the Local Authority managing services for young people aged 13 to 19 years of age. Having done this for the past twenty years I fear it may be coming to an end with all the looming public expenditure cuts proposed by the Con/Dem coalition Government, or is that ConDemed coalition Government?

However, sometimes situations like this make you act instead of just dreaming. I am seriously considering moving to Thailand (preferably Udon)and and embarking on a new career venture of teaching English at secondary school level. I have a Masters Degree and would take a six week TEFL course at Khon Kaen with the hope of finding a teaching position in Udon. I know the monthly pay is only approximatly 25,000 Baht, however I own two properties that are mortgage free and would hopefully recieve 50,000 a month income from renting them out. This would enable me to live comfortably while still having a career similiar to the one I have now and enjoy.

Therefore, thats my introduction and once again hello to you guys out there

Welcome Andy. It sounds like you have done some planning and have made fairly realistic evaluations regarding your possible move to Land of Smiles (and grins). Sometimes opportunities present themselves that you had never considered. Best of luck in your endeavors.

Andy, Welcome to Udon Map forum. Glad to hear that you are blissfully Married to an Udon girl. You are much like the rest of us here, we are mostly in relationships with Issan girls, one word of warning - there are many well fit birds in Udon Thani so you could be tempted to stray - not a bad thing though.

Hi and good afternoon, I am a new member and the reason for joining is to glean advice and information off you expats if possible

The thing is my friend is about to start building a house near Nakhon Sakhon and another friend and myself are plannning to visit him in september but although we have been numerous times to Bangkok, Pattaya and Phuket neither of us has ever ventured north.

What I was wondering is what there is to do in Udon with regards nightlife, bars, gogo & clubs? we both really enjoy our holidays to Thailand and enjoy having a beer and meeting people. My friend was in a relationship with a Thai girl but unfortunately that broke up so we are both single

Any information anyone can give us about the area would be appreciated as we don't want to be bored and lonely

We would also require the services of a driver and car for a few days to run us to Sakhon Nakhon and show us the area we would be happy to pay for the driver and his accomodation at Sakhon and anywhere else he took us and pay for his time

We will require a hotel for our stay so advice on that would be great
