I thought they moved their operation from there a couple of years ago.
Are they not now about 12km out of town on KK road?

The new place is where they do all the repairs/servings. Very large, professional & clean place when I last visited it, but that was well over 18 months ago now.
There used to be a bit of English spoken there, not enough if you wanted to ask a technical question, but enough to understand & discuss a service, for example.

The place on the lights is the car show room & where you had to go if you wanted to buy a new car from Honda. They had a mini showroom at the service centre & a couple of staff who would answer part exchange/finance questions but if you wanted to actually do the deed you had to go to the place by the lights for paperwork signing etc.

The staff at the showroom by the lights used to have quite a bad reputation about their attitude towards Falang going there to buy a car, so much so that I know a few walked out & went straight to Toyota instead.
Not sure if that has changed now.
The staff at the service centre have always been great towards me personally.

Hi,
Went to the Honda showroom to buy a new car nearly five years ago. The one on the crossroads near the ring road. The treatment i got was, to put it plainly, was sh*t. i was interest in one car, asked if they did a automatic in this model. Got a blank look, asked the size of the engine and a few other basic questions, same blank look. Wife asked in Thai, same. So i walked out and went and bought a Toyota. Glad i did, after reading a road test on the honda i was after. Every cloud has a silver lining. Had the Toyota now for nearly five years, the only auto. small model 1500cc, i could find then, with disc brakes all round, which i require for a auto., it's been very good. so will be putting it in for a new model later this year. Done 90,000K in the one i got, only had to get two new tyres and a new battery.
Cheers Doug.

If money was no object my first choice would the Audi Q3, then the BMW X1.

The Toyota Fortuner, Izusu Mu 7, and Pajero Sport are just blinged up pick up trucks with leafspring rear suspension and handle like Bambi on ice.
My mate used to have a Chevvy Captiva, it had 15 warranty claims in the first year, and fell to bits in front of his eyes.
The all new Captiva may be an improvement.

I like the Honda CRV 4X4 2.4 Litre with the Modulo kit (Mugen)
Beautiful build quality.

If you fancy the Nav. this could be an option if it is still available..

Apart from not having the cash, :D , my personal fear at buying a new car at the moment would be that it was underwater a few months ago....whatever dealers may claim to the opposite.

I think as to what to buy....depends a bit on where you are going to drive.
The civic is a nice car & the 2 litre is quick....but on the open road that could result in a few tickets for speeding :D
Not very practicable if you are going to use the country roads of Udon.

The bigger beasts are certainly better for rough roads, but really not as practical in town. They also rather give a false illusion of safety as they actually crumple as much as a civic when you hit something.
Agree with 88 that the cheaper models are really pickups but then that is the difference between paying 1.2M for a Mu 7 & maybe 4M for a BMW or Merc.

The CRV is a nice looking vehicle & I gather that a new 2012 model has been launched, although I am not sure when in Thailand...here is a link to it..

Apparently the USA launch was nearly delayed as some of the components are manufactured in Thailand !!!

Honda Maybe Masda 3 Sport Now

Postby dunroaming » February 3, 2012, 12:38 pm

Well, First of all thanks for all the advise everyone, I have now decided (well at the momnet I have) to shift away from Honda after reading several reviews and am now thinking about the new Mazda 3, 2.0 Sports Model. Anyone have anything good or bad to say about them? I understand about the floods but dont believe the top manufacturers would pass these cars on as it wouldnt be in their best interests.

I bought a new Altis CNG from Toyota yesterday. It has a duel fuel system, gas and LP. The LP costs 1 baht per kilometer, ultimately less costly than the Vios or Yaris to operate. They had 3 in stock 2 were sold yesterday. One silver remains on the showroom floor. You pay the list price and the Dealer throws in 1 year number 1 insurance, tinted windows and license fees . I think I would be leery about a used car but Toyota. Honda, GM….could not handle the negativity publicity associated with selling flood damaged cars. Reference the Toyota US recall acceleration problems.

Honda Garage Info

I just thought I'd chip in, in that there are several dealerships/showrooms on the highway entering Nong Khai, if one fancies looking elsewhere. Certainly Honda, which I've started to use for my servicing now, although it's not as big as the Udon setup. Mazda also there and I'm aware a neighbour got an apparently good deal on his new car. Unless you're lucky, communication remains difficult, other than the basics.

Honda Garage Info

Postby semperfiguy » February 4, 2012, 10:02 am

I bought my Honda City 18 months ago from the Honda dealer at the Ring Road closest to town. I walked in expecting to deal like I do back in the States, so as I was approached by a saleslady I immediately asked her to call over the sales manager because I was ready to make a deal (had already done my homework and had the price list in hand). We sat at a table in the showroom and with my trusty yellow lined paper pad I wrote down a figure that I would be willing to pay for the car. I got that blank stare from the SM and a laugh from the sales lady. About that time the SM's cell phone rang and he took the call and left the table without a word and disappeared...never to return. Well, then I thought I'd just walk out and let them chase me down to make a deal, but nope...never happened! Then I went to the dealer in Nong Khai thinking they would negotiate, but got the same treatment. I really preferred the Honda City over all the other brands I had already looked at, so with my tail between my legs I went back to the first Honda dealer and made a deal, which turned out to be no deal at all. They had no promotion for free insurance at the time, so they wanted to throw in some kind of rain shield that attaches to the windows, which I didn't want, so I finally got them to come down 5000 off the total price instead. After leaving the showroom the saleslady called me on my cell phone to ask if I wanted the window tint for 5000, so I told her to go ahead. Turns out they subcontract the tint to an outside shop that puts their big ugly advertisement sticker in the center of the rear window. So, I called them up to see how much the job would have cost if I had gone direct, and it was only 2500 baht. So, the dealer was able to recover half of the discount that they gave me. All in all I came away feeling very dissatisfied with the way that I was treated. Their attitude was one of total indifference.

However, having said that, I have been satisfied with the car in general with the exception of the gas mileage. I get 15 kilometers per litre on the highway, but only 8.5 kpl around town, which is really lousy. The literature says that I will get at least 12 around town.

My first servicing experience at the center on the Khon Khen Hwy was a favorable one, and the price was right.
