Honest maid.

Postby BKKSTAN » August 28, 2006, 6:14 pm

:) I got a nice surprise my last trip to Bangkok. After driving most of the night,I found my friend that I was supposed to stay with unavailable. So I checked in a cheap hotel on Suk 4,took a 2hr. nap and showered.Got ahold of my friend and checked out.The next morning ,when I woke up at my friends,I couldn't find my gold wedding ring. After looking all around his place,I wondered if I might have left it at the hotel.

I rushed over there and they said they would call the maid at home that Had cleaned my room and I should wait in the lobby.About 45 minutes later,a middle aged lady shows up with my ring!It was a 2 baht ring and the staff were all excited and telling her in Thai, that she was crazy to return it.Anyway,I was pleasantly surprised :!: :!: Gave her 2 K and she was very happy!I was very lucky it was her from the conversation that I was listening to!

Surely if she had been as honest as she should have been, she would have previously handed it in to the Hotel reception or management and they would then have known about it, and had it in their possession, as soon as you raised the question! :?

or, she knows the management would of just kept it, and not returned it if asked. figuring if anyone is going to keep it, it might as well be the finder. if asked, as happened, she returned it.

been in the same situation myself, held on to, waiting, or tracked people down when finding things at one job, knowing if i didn't personally return or attempt to, it wouldn't be done.

Nice story not all the people are crook here, had a waitress chase me down the street one time trying to give me her tip as she topught I had forgot the money on the table.

Sounds to me like the maid was correct in taking the item home, doesn't sound like management would have gotten the ring back to the owner. Remember all he had to do was say no she didn't see it.

similar thing happened to me, a few years back was staying at my usual hotel in pattaya, left my Thai gold wedding ring on the side for 2 days, then noticed it was gone, called reception all very nice and apologetic big bunch of flowers arrived and friut basket, police man came too !! but no ring. i guess the maid kept it.
or was it her helper we will never know.

another time staying at Ban chiang 7 years ago , when lots of small change went walkies from the side table where i kept it, i just empty the pockets of scrapnel of an evening, can't stand it jangling about during the day, must of been only less than 100 baht, anyway it went after the maid had cleaned, called reception and 10 mins later the maid returned with the cash, she thought it was a tip. ! (but it was there a couple of days) did feel guilty after, so did leave a tip when i left, with a note by the side saying it was a tip.

the first time i lost/forgot something like this happened on my first trip in 1988 staying at the Silom Plaza Hotel on Silom for 3 nights, left for Pattaya but forgot to take a stereo cassette player(sony) 2 days later the Sony system had turned up at my Hotel in Pattaya all cleaned up looked like new, by special delivery !! . :D

These people who keep leaving their wedding rings in their rooms, - I just wonder why they take them off in the first place??

If you must take them off (maybe for medical reasons, - an allergy perhaps) why not put them on your key ring for safe keeping!

i take mine off because when i am in Thailand my fingers get smaller for some reason and it slips off.
don't wear it when working as its very soft Gold and mishapes and wears easily.

OK when I spelled mirror in the other post I remember thinking out each letter, now how it ended up moors I have no idea anyone got an idea. I don't type but that was way off when I was making such an effort

Boy thats wierd first when I typed it here the first time I typed mirrir, I gice upi as long a you guys know what I mean.

Rings here do bend very easy and it is heck to get soap out the crevices there is absolutley no reason to hide your married here when sporting about so I really doubt that.

I wonder when you have nerve damage from a spinal injury if it can make your fingers so really wierd things. :?
