Just to update this topic and apologises for my tardy reply.

I stayed at Jim's Lodge which was basic, cheap but perfectly fine. Sky Train at the end of the road. Can't for the life of me think of the station. Maybe Philom?

that would be PLOENCHIT station.. Other slightly more high end places would be Centre Point Wittayu and Centre Point Lang Suan, both decent serviced apartments with a nice breakfast with the Wittayu one a bit pricier and only a block from the British embassy.

Thanks FrazeeDK, It certainly was Ploenchit station.
