Hi All,

I will be coming down to Udon from Chiang Mai for a wedding in a couple of months time, can anyone recommend a decent hotel at a reasonable price to stay at. The price limit is 1,500 Baht a night.

Thanks. :?

i have always liked The Ban chiang they have big rooms and the hotel has all the facilitys you need, a much longer walk to the complex, but if you are bringing your bicycle it will come in handy !! just check on the links above for web-sites and costs etc , and its with-in your budget, have'nt stayed there for a few years, has a very nice pool too.

Check them on the map referances for distance to the Charoensri complex(Shopping centre) and home to The Charoensri Grand Hotel.

The Irish Clock with it's excellent breakfast, free wi-fi and comfortable rooms.
A short walk to the shopping mall.

I think 850 baht a night.

I agree, for value for money and a nice room, the Irish Clock is best !

Charoensri Grand 1400 baht incs breakfast.Central but overpriced.
Ban Chaing 1100 baht.Nice but a good way from the centre.
Charoen 800 baht. Not bad, about 500 metres or so from the centre.

These are probably your four best options but if I were you I'd go for the Irish Clock.

If you're only going to be here for a couple of nights then I would recommend the Charoensri Grand Hotel, next to the mall and close to all that you will probably need for a short stay. If you're going to be here longer than a week, ask for a reduced rate and they will probably knock it down to about 1100 baht with buffet breakfast for two included.

Charoen Hotel is a personal favorite of mine (first stayed at this hotel back in the 70s) plus good value at the 800 baht rate mentioned above. A better swimming pool than the CGH's, lots of parking spaces available if you're driving and also has buffet-style breakfast. A short walk to the mall.

Irish Clock is a favourite of many in here with very favourable reviews but they only have 7 rooms so best to phone ahead to reserve one. Good restaurant, decor, beer on tap and nice owners. What more do you need? :D

ive stayed at them all except the irish clock but i've had a great feed there so the
rooms are probably just as good ..i found it a bit hard to book on-line but it was
probably my fault...but llike polehawk said if you want comfort and location go to
the Grand and you'll get change outter your 1500 but it won't be much..zac

I've just stayed at the Irish Clock and Charoensri Grand, in my opinion the Clock is a better place and better value, the rooms are just as big, the Clocks bathroom is better, it has in room tea making facility (the Charoensri grand doesn't), and the breakfast is far better. The big down on the Char/Grand is that it's well worn out now and it shows in the rooms with loose/broken sockets, fittings etc: I reckon it's living on past reputation and face value, and is well overdue a refit.
Stayed at the Ban Chiang once , room had a strange smell and it didn't do it for me,
never stayed at any of the others so cannot comment on them.

The Grand never did it for me.

Overpriced, with maids that will leave your room unlocked after cleaning, absolutely, disgusting food and management that could not care one way or another.

Much better value is the Ton Koon.

Similar (not same) standard, as the Grand but far better value and staff that are brilliant.

No swimming pool but I pay 400 Baht per night!!

Tuk tuk to centre will cost you 30 Baht.

Also has, probably, the best snooker club in Udon and a "karaoke" bar and rooftop beer garden that are well worth a visit - without your other half!

;)
What is hope??????

The Karin Hotel is nice enough at 400 baht a night, and for a few baht extra you can get an American or European breakfast. They have maid service, and getting clothes cleaned is cheap. It is about a 15 minute walk from the hotel to Robinsons. In the other direction, it is about 20 minutes walking to the post office and 30 or so to Nang Prajak.
