House for sale in or near to Udon

Postby motorhomes4sale » October 1, 2005, 2:38 pm

Ive been looking through the houses on FBI Udon Real Estate and the houses seem really cheap. Ive seen ones between 850000 and 1.7 million that I would be happy to live in. Are there any catches or are they just cheap because its a much less popular area than say Pattaya or Phuket ?
Are there any areas that you wouldnt recommend a farang with his Thai wife to live ? are there any dangerous areas ? is it best to live near or even in the town ? My Thai wife is from Sakhon Nakhon so Udon would be the perfect location for us, not to far from her home town. Also I like a few nights in Bangkok every now and then so its easy to hop on a plane from Udon.

Andy,i am in Nong Khai but the economics are the same as Udon. There is huge supply of land available and yes it is cheap relative to Phuket and Pattaya as demand here is low.

As to whether Udon is safe i leave that to the guys actually living there to say the good and bad spots.

The prices get even cheaper further out of town. I live 40kms away and built a 3bedroomed bungalow on a rai of land here for just under 3 million baht. The developer and the insurance assessor have remarked I could have added 2 million more had it beeen on the outskirts of town.
As for safety, I haven't experienced any problems but then my house is built on the same land as the police station and the officers houses. So I am literally surrounded by ,almost my own security.

Just buy yourself some land and get something built that will suit exactly what you need, heres a good site that will give you an idea of building prices:

Good site BB. Am I just missing it or is there a way to change the site to english. Getting wife to sit down and translate is not a viable option due to patience. I am on dialup and not a fast one.

Also another site for info to buy or rent. It has some properties that look kind of nice. You can look all over Thailand also.

This building company seems a bit expensive, the cheapest plans are 770 000 baht for a bungalow with an interior size of only 8 metres x 9 metres ( 72 sqm )

I think I would want to build something single story of about 150 sqm

What would you expect to pay ?

Andy, you wil have to be more specific about the specifications as there is a huge range.A bog standard 1400 square foot single floor home should cost around 1,200,000 Baht.
