Been quite a while since we had a POLL on Udonmap, and as this topic seems to have been getting two very opposite views, lets see what the vote says:-

NO, In the 8 years Nong khai I have never pay more than necessary.
The last two times in Udon I have to pay for nothing.
On the airport 200 bath and the last time by the lady 500 bath.

No brainer, like chalk & cheese! IMHO two belligerent officers at NK, we all know but I will not name, made any visit to that office an unpleasant experience.

Having never been to the Nong Khai office I can't vote, but on the one occasion I have been to the Udon office I was charged 500baht for something that apparently should have been free. Guess who I saw?

I can't really vote either..

When I first came to Udon I suffered at the hands of unpublished daily changing rules at Nong Khai.
I then decided to organise my life in Thailand in such a way that my contact with Immigration offices & staff would be kept to the bare minimum necessary to remain within the Law..

In the last 6 years I have needed to visit both offices only once.
At both offices I was treated with curtsy & exactly as I should have been to my understanding of Thai Law & what I was requesting, in terms of documentation & charges. No favours or no bribery asked or given, by either side. :D

That has not, however, altered my belief that structuring my life to make visits unnecessary is the most stress free way for me to live in Thailand!!

To me the poll has no relevance because which ever you come under the jurisdiction of , your stuck with it, unless your prepared to move home .

I couldn't agree more Val .... but it is only supposed to be a bit of FUN.

From what I've read here and on other associated threads it would appear that most people are happy to be dealing with the Udon Office ......... until that is, they are unlucky enough to have to deal with one particular member of staff, who, if she were working anywhere other than Thailand would be looking for a new job, but as we always say TIT

Did realise that Statto, It was only an observation .Your second paragraph though warrants a more serious reply .
The problem seems to be . There is always one "particular "member of staff that causes consternation. In the old days we had our Nina with her drawers! full of stuff from her OTOP supermarket, then we we had Mr Happy(OrinchaI), never known to smile, then more lately, although I never personally came across her, so don't know her real name, but lets be polite and call her Mrs Rolex. My point is . These people all come and go and yet, I, and many others, have always , providing we have had enough money and documents to meet the legal requirements of issuing a visa, received them .
Now we have reports of another, lets call her Miss Acne.I don't ,should I come across her, anticipate having any problems, providing , as I said previously, I have everything in order .The ones that do always, in my opinion, seem to be trying in some way, to circumvent the rules or otherwise managing to antagonise the officer .Why else should a bribe be paid. If it was me I would stick to my guns to clear the matter, and apologise if subsequently found I was wrong, certainly not put cash under the table .Doing so will only increase the likely hood of it happening again .
just my humble opinion . =;

I agree with TB, never paid more than was required under Thai law, any requests for more was met with a quizzical look and the question Why ?. So under Thai law if you meet the requirements you do not have to pay more, recently though was asked to contribute to the Students learning dinner fund, which was politely refused.

My vote would actually be "About the same". You may want to add this as a third selection in your poll.
