Importing Personal and Household Effects
Re: Importing Personal and Household Effects
Poijt taken about Customs unpacking and packing, however i have since found out that if the Customs unpack
they must have a valid reason and if the reason is unjustified they pay to have it repacked and any damamge they incur. Same as the Uk really but noit quite so regimented done over heer with a lax attitude. hence that is why i paid possibly over the odds to ensure no problems.

Has anyone imported a car? I guess it would be best to put this in my Spouse's name about a year before importing just like Texpat.

Given that cars are specifically excluded from the duty free exemption for returning Thais, your friend(s) must have been very lucky Malc.
Do you know anyone personally who has done this?

Nobody except Diplomats get vechiel/car into Thailand without paying duties.
Household gods is no problem. Sometimes the custom want some Tea money, but in general we are good talking to the customs. The custom at Laem Chabang knows us through around 20 years now and we always comes to an agreement. But again Vechiel/car into Thailand without duties as a "normal" person. Forget it..

Is there any "negotiation" on the price paid when bringing a car in? Can a little envelope under the table reduce the liability to import tax at all?

Can´t say that they never will accept the Tea money when it comes to vehicles.
I have never experienced that you can put money in an envelope and give customs officers the under table, when importing vehicles. They are very strict, regarding imports of vehicles. Normal household, easy to pay Tea money and get almost “anything” into Thailand.

That's what i really know about importing personal and household effects is, you can bring a container from your country inside Thailand whitout pay one bath tax just if the transport is on thai name. i done that 7 years ago from Italy because my wife spend on my country more than 3 Years ,so we declare to comeback to live in Thailand and the good Delivery company done everythings whitout any problem , i spend 2500 Euro home to home !! Wonderful, not one glass broken !! The company is SDV ,and is all around the world.
For the second question about the car, forget about , you have to pay 200% tax on real valutation at the moment , my neighbour bring his Rolls-Royce from Sweden and you can imagine how much him pay !!! Just because his personal wish, but better you buy in Thailand whitout go crazy for custom, paper ,number plate ,ecc . i hope to explain right the argoment !! Good luck to everybody want to do something like me !!!

Well as long you got the right visa/permits then you are allow to import household duty free. But again, only one of each electrical items etc. Yes a packing/inventory list are required when moving. Doesn´t matter to which country. It doesn´t have to be so detailed to import household goods to Thailand. I know many of you know this http://www.abs-relocations.com/images/s ... ations.pdf But I will put it on anyway.
Nice weekend to all of you.

Importing Pets
Guys
Has anyone had experience bringing in a pet from overseas?
Is there a quarantine period, or any documentation.
Cheers

Importing Personal and Household Effects
Nick there's a thread on this already from last January.
http://www.udonmap.com/udonthaniforum/p ... ml#p249986
Not sure where you're coming from but the rules are the same. As is pointed out in the thread, there is a quarantine period, but if you have ALL the proper documentation you can quarantine the animal at home.
I went through this over two years ago so if you have any questions feel free to ask.

Importing Personal and Household Effects
This is probably a question rarely asked but I will give it a go.
Doe anyone have any information about bringing into Thailand an ultralight aircraft. In the USA, you don't need a license or registration as long as it is single place and other restrictions.
Also, any info about flying the ultralight once and if I get one into the country.
I am sure this will raise a few eyebrows, but that is OK.
Thanks

Was in Nakhon Phanom last weekend, stopped to put some air in my motorcycle tires, and saw a kite powerplant/seat frame in the shop. Talked to the guy for quite a while about ultralights, and he showed me his license. He told me that, on 11/11/11, at the opening of the new bridge, 30 or so ultralights will fly across the Mekong, as part of the opening ceremonies. Might be worth a drive over there...

Hi Sateev: I do not yet live in LOS. I am still in the visiting stage. I will be in the Udon area for about a month after February 2012. I have been in several ultralights as a passenger/student in the US and think this the way for me to satisfy my flight passion. I prefer a trick and rudder plane as opposed to a tricycle type ultralight. I hold a private pilot's license in the US but I have not flown in several years due to the cost.
I expect to be living closer to full time in Thailand within 2 years and would like to be able to fly there. I have a special interest in a Sorrell Hiperlight. I visited the factory when the Sorrell brothers were making the plane and was VERY impressed. It is a negative stagger biplane and has a very substantial frame and enclosed cockpit. Since I do not want to pay $20 K for a new one, I will maybe look for a used model here in the US and consider sending it to Thailand in a shipping crate.
Are there places to rent ultralights in the Udon area? How about renting conventional aircraft and prices? Thank you for the information you posted about flight rules, etc. Item 9 talks about maintenance and it is unclear to me if the owner can work on his own plane. Are the "practical and practiced" rules for flying in rural areas similar to those practices for cars and motorbikes. If you don.t cause a problem in a non-congested area and don't hurt someone, you can do as you please with reason.

Importing Personal and Household Effects- Using bonded wareh
Evening all.
It's been suggested that if I use a bonded warehouse to import personal belongings (wifey's) i.e. new car BMW X3
that it would do away with the problem of having to pay tea money, or more of a concern loosing the car completely because some customs guy wants to bid on it :-"
I don't mind paying the usual duties we've read about, even a bit of tea money, but not to loose out loads of money.
Has any one bought a vehicle in this way. Is it feesable, viable.
Any information with or without links would be greatly appreciated.
Forgive me if I've posted wrongly/pinched some one's thread, Moderator please feel free to move/re-title if needs.
Regards.
