At last year's renewal of extension of stay the lady on the left asked me for THB 2000. I told her that the price was THB 1900. She cheerfully said OK. That was the end of this.

Interesting annual Renewal today

It's not that I don't have it worked out says 1,900 right on the form. I let it run to see where it was going. I was asked for 2,000 that is the key to the scam, Doesn't sound like I was the only one they did this to. I'm just sharing a red flag. I got my money back. Just like the other guys no receipt back, After got it I saw it said 1,900. I was told that there supervisor is the key by another officer working there. I knew all that had my 1,900 ready and was asked for 2,000, Dero I got my money back and learned something in the process.

Now here is where I'm at a loss. Last multi entry I got was 14 years ago. I was charged a flat fee and not one later.

So I'm told yesterday, to come back in 30 days, not a problem for me. If I wanted a Multi entry I would be charge an additional 3,800 Baht Is that how it works or should the 1,900 be applied against the 3,800 ? Leaving you to pay an additional 1,990

If not the true cost for multi entry is 5,700 baht ? somehow this just doesn't ring true for me. I will probably travel no more then two times out of Country in the next year, so buying single exit for 1,000 is a better deal for me. I've done it once now and it's easy.

Since we are on the subject wasn't something about the Asean agreement allowing a Thai visa holder to travel to other countries in the region without an additional visa?

You know from some of the replies here it appears you guys want to shoot the messenger and not the thief. That one is a bit hard to understand

Glad you stuck to your guns, it's not the amount but the principle!
Last time I was in there I was gob smacked to see a westerner hand over a bottle of whiskey after receiving his visa, I thought he was a total fool for a number of reasons, the first being that he handed it over AFTER he received his visa, therefore he got no preferential treatment, why spoil it for others as in time they expect gifts from foreigners to be the norm, they are there to do a job and they get paid for it.

Any Thai person dealing with officers… officials…. Clerical staff… generally leave a tip… I don’t agree with it but that’s what happens… Best just to go along with it … If they suggest you do and it’s only a small amount better to give them something… they can cause problems for you if you don’t.

Sticking to your western principles may one day come back to bite you…

bumper,
The cost of a multi entry re-entry permit is 3800 baht. This is IN ADDITION TO the 1900 baht for your visa extension.
So she wasn't trying to pull a fast one on that !
If you only leave the country a couple of times a year you are better getting a couple of single re-entry permits at 1000 baht each......tips for each re-entry permit obviously at your discretion ! ;)
Just when I thought our chance had passed, you go and save the best for last.

To fully integrate into Thai society you need to use Thai principles… There are benefits…

Say if you were caught drinking and driving and it was suggested that you slipped a 1000 baht note into the Police officers pocket to continue on your way or would you stick to your western principles and refuse to pay the bribe preferring to spend a night in a police cell with several drunken Thai’s who just happened to like the smell of a farang and want to sniff the back of your neck… then in the morning dragged up in front of a judge and fined 20000 baht…

Better to oil the wheels with a small tip or bribe…

A big difference breaking the law and paying a bribe,
than been asked to pay for more than is required on an account

Bumper,

In January I paid 3200bht for my multi-entry stamp. You may want to check The Thai Immigration website for the current cost. You don't want to be over charged.

I agree with you Poolcover a little " tea money doesn't hurt.

Application for re-entry permit
•Single entry: 1,000.- Baht
•Multiple entries within remaining period of admission: 3,800.- Baht
http://www.immigration.go.th/nov2004/en ... p?page=fee
Visa
•Transit visa: 800.- Baht
•Tourist visa: 1,000.- Baht
•Non-immigrant visa: ◦ single entry: 2,000.- Baht
multiple entries within 1 year: 5,000.- Baht
◦multiple entries within 3 years for holders of passports or other travel documents from the Asia-Pacific cooperation group who travel in and out of the Kingdom for business:

•Immigrant visa: 1,900.- Baht
•Non-quota immigrant visa: ◦single entry: 1,900.- Baht
multiple entries within 1 year: 3,800.- Baht
If that is non-imm visa for one year, 3200 thb means 1800 thb discount. If re-entry, 3200 thb means 600 thb discount. Some of us get discount and that money we others have to pay extra.

Those prices are from 2003:
The ministerial order 27 (2003) was issued according to the 1979 immigration act and announced in the Royal Gazette, Decrees vol. 120, part 59a, on June 27, 2003 and has been enforced since August 26, 2003.

Thanks Zidane good to know I will go the 1,000 baht route. You may have noticed that I tipped the young lady 40 baht, You may think what is the difference it's real simple my decision to do that not conned.

Thai's tipping Govt officials I haven;t seen that in 14 years. Maybe some do and I just don't see it.

If I run a red light doesn't matter to me if the cop take the 200 baht or the court does either way cost the same. If I didn't run the red light I will ask for a trial.

I believe someone was kind enough to post the information from the Immigration Office as to fees. I will review that. For me this is a closed issue. I will do it my way and you do it yours everyone will be happy.

Being caught drink driving, ie Driving Under the Influence, illegal world wide and getting a visa,,,,, come on man, how can you possibly compare the two FFS! Get your brain out of your pocket.

Immigration is not as they say Rocket Science, firstly many of us who have renewed over the years check to see if anything has changed, provide all the photos including on copies ( one ) . The fact they wish to take one digitally is irrelevant I will not pay of that. provide as I say all the paperwork including an envelope containing the right amount as laid down by their web-site. Sit back and wait , never any problems . If by chance you need to change or wish something different, one speaks to them prior to the event and find out exactly what they require, provide and no problems.
Why is it such a big thing, simplicity itself it would seem some forget to plan and therefore get mired in the payment of extras for simple changes when in fact no payment is required.

Think before you act and visit Immigration for an Annual renewal makes life a lot easier.

Make this comment from Khun Paul a "sticky", he very lucidly points out that preparation is the key, when dealing with Thai Immigration. One pre-visit, to your office, a quick chat about "new requirements", go home and prepare and return early enough to sort out any problems that might occur.

Yes, preparation is important. Also on marriage visa, have twice had to take new house photo because told one 'not right'. So i always go early so i can get these changes done and go back 2 days later. I do give 2000 baht but i get them to do all the photocopying! Only a small tip but i get extra fast service for some reason .....
