Thailand being a developing country, and Udon being in the armpit of the developing country, I'm actually quite pleased with the level of care available......for minor problems. I'm glad you point out the shortfalls in patient care for the rest of us........maybe things will change if enough foreigners complain. But in the end, living in Udon means you won't own the piece of land you live on and you won't get very high quality medical care.
I'll hope this thread continues to point out the shortfalls (and positive side as well) to the medical care in Udon.
At 11am on Thursday morning, a friend of mine slipped and fell in the locker/shower area of the fitness center we both go to. My friend is 65 years old. He couldn't walk/put weight on his left leg. So we managed to assist him down the stairs and into a big Fortuna, and it was off to the hospital.
He was taken to AEK, where an x-ray diagnosed he had broken his hip. He was admitted and scheduled for hip surgery on Friday morning. Friday morning he was told that they (the hospital), didn't have the necessary orthopedic appliance in stock

, it would have to be "
special ordered" from Bangkok, and should arrive in time to do the surgery on Saturday morning.
I have been trying to telephone him, but his telephone is turned off. So I am assuming the orthopedic appliance arrived and he is in surgery?
I suppose the point of my post is: why didn't anyone check to see that the appliance was in stock on Thursday, after he was diagnosed and scheduled for surgery

? Why did they (the hospital) wait until the last minute to have a look?
Anyway let's all hope for the best for this guy

.
BTW, my friends name is Mick, a Brit, who resides in Nong Wua Sa. If any of you know him he will be at AEK for 2-3 weeks, if you want to pay him a visit.
