This just confirms even more fears for many ,I imagine.

Its a published paper, so it has some credibility

hand washing between patients in Udon, no way

See More - Make sure u supervise your babies assessment next week and ask to see handwashing and cleaning procedures between each patient before your child is touched.

Frightening read Wazza, unfortunately not confined to one hospital. I visit my dad most nights and have to wear a plastic apron and wash my hands on the ward and then again before entering the room he is in, However this does not seem to apply to the cleaner or the dinner lady. On the other hand the nursing staff at the Royal marsden are IMO just great and amazing in their care and help, they really cheer him up.
I should point out he has Myloma and is neutropenic.

Thailand being a developing country, and Udon being in the armpit of the developing country, I'm actually quite pleased with the level of care available......for minor problems. I'm glad you point out the shortfalls in patient care for the rest of us........maybe things will change if enough foreigners complain. But in the end, living in Udon means you won't own the piece of land you live on and you won't get very high quality medical care.
I'll hope this thread continues to point out the shortfalls (and positive side as well) to the medical care in Udon.

At 11am on Thursday morning, a friend of mine slipped and fell in the locker/shower area of the fitness center we both go to. My friend is 65 years old. He couldn't walk/put weight on his left leg. So we managed to assist him down the stairs and into a big Fortuna, and it was off to the hospital.
He was taken to AEK, where an x-ray diagnosed he had broken his hip. He was admitted and scheduled for hip surgery on Friday morning. Friday morning he was told that they (the hospital), didn't have the necessary orthopedic appliance in stock  , it would have to be "special ordered" from Bangkok, and should arrive in time to do the surgery on Saturday morning.
I have been trying to telephone him, but his telephone is turned off. So I am assuming the orthopedic appliance arrived and he is in surgery?
I suppose the point of my post is: why didn't anyone check to see that the appliance was in stock on Thursday, after he was diagnosed and scheduled for surgery :? ? Why did they (the hospital) wait until the last minute to have a look?
Anyway let's all hope for the best for this guy [-o< .
BTW, my friends name is Mick, a Brit, who resides in Nong Wua Sa. If any of you know him he will be at AEK for 2-3 weeks, if you want to pay him a visit.

It was probably the artificial hip joint they needed to order.

Each pts ball socket is different and its sized off the x ray.

Not nice to stick a fractured neck of femur ( hip ) in a car .

I understand that. But my friend kept insisting he wasn't in much pain and he didn't want to call an ambulance. He didn't appear or sound to be in much pain. I've broken my fair share of bones, I howled like a banshee each time.
You know those Brits ;) : "keep a stiff upper lip and all".

Didn't someone else recently slip in a gym shower room and bang himself up?

Be careful with transporting people who may have broken something. You can make things worse. It's better to call an ambulance anyway, if they like it or not.

Some people don't feel a thing when they brake a bone, that's no reason to be careless especially with transporting people. Moving them can cause a lot of extra damage.

Mick had his surgery on Saturday and all seems to have gone well. He is at AEK, room 612. He will be there for 2-3 weeks. I'm sure he would appreciate any visitors.
