Internet Speeds Being Throttled?

Postby scooter » August 13, 2010, 11:36 am

Hi!

It appears that internet speeds are generally being throttled (or manipulated) in many parts of LOS - or what?

These last 3 days there are many reports on other forums that download speeds have been fantastically slow - and even non-existent in periods.

TOT (especially) seems to be the main cause of much anger among many farangs, as many people are experiencing "blocking" of torrent downloads, although there are apparently also 'problems' with other ISPs.

Are you experiencing no real problems in Udon? (or maybe everyone's partying other places and have no time for the internet  )

Cheers

TOT ADSL from 80km outside Udon.

Speeds to Bangkok are OK, anywhere overseas - shocking (as measured by Speedtest http://www.speedtest.net/ )

Same same yesterday.

I can still download torrents (so apparently not blocked by TOT as reported elsewhere), but again the speed is so so.

The same as Jack using TOT ADSL (4Mb) but from 30km outside Udon. Torrents are downloading well though, have 3 movies and a TV series on the go at the moment, the best movie speed currently download 155kbps upload 27kbps.

Good god - there is really nothing to discuss. Thailand's connection to the rest of the world is not only totally overloaded, means too slow for the ever rising demand, it is also watched and filtered by the thai autorities and then distributed by an amateurish network throughout the country.

So no matter what provider you have - TIT. And I dout it will change wihtin the next 5 years (after having suffered from it in all variances through 5 years now).

Given that this slowdown has only started happening in the past couple of days (before that my speeds were variable, but tolerable), I would say that discussion is quite warranted.

I have been complaining about 3B (TT&T) where it was not good. But in the last couple of weeks it has gotten back to normal, like when it was MAX.

Having read and seen signs saying that my 4MB would be going to 5MB, so today around 9AM I tested it, first with the BKK server and got 5MB dn and .5 up. Then I ran it to a server in NY (USA) and got 5.05 dn and .39 up.

So not sure what your problem is, mine at this moment is better than fine! :D

Well, it's good to hear that at least SOME aren't (yet?) affected by any blocking or slowing of downloads. It's apparently a completely different story in other places - and in the Samui/Phuket areas (amongst others) people are hard hit by the - erm...whatever...and getting next to nothing downloaded.

Just at this moment (3.30pm) things seem to be going reasonably well in our house, though utorrent is completely stationary.
