invisible icons

For some reason the forum and topic pages on my computer do not show the icons for "post new topic, reply, reply with quote or report post." I only discovered them by accident while roaming around the pages with my cursor and when the pointer came to the spot where the icon should be a box popped up identifying the "invisible" icon. Its not a problem now as I know what to do (click on the invisible icon), but was curious about what is going on. Anyone know why this is happening?
