IPHONE G4 NEED TO UNLOCK

Just returned from a quick (and expensive) trip to oz where i was persuaded to buy the wife a new phone , it is a new apple iphone g4 and now that we are back in Laos i am buggered if i can find anyone with the nouse to unlock the thing , found 1 bloke who said he might be able to but it would cost 5000 baht. i will be in udon next week so was wondering if any forumites know of somewhere we can unlock it or have i done me dough?.also bought the young bloke a second hand X box and for another $100 i was told a chip could be inserted to enable it to play pirate copys , didnt work , anyone know if possible to do this in udon as well

Son has a degree in Computer Science. A while back asked him if I bought an Apple iphone in the states could he unlock it and use in Thailand. He said it couldn't be done. Don't know if he was right or not but took his word for it

A 'Google' would suggest that it is possible & can be done yourself.
However, it is also equally likely that you will lose some of the functionality of the phone.
It is also possible that you will run into issues when trying to obtain applications...

Don't know anywhere that does it in Udon. There are a couple of phone sellers in the night market (they have little 'offices/workshops' attached)at the 7/11/road end of the market that are certainly capable of doing phone repairs. I would start there if I wanted to know - VERY little English spoken though. Still think you might get a few issues after unlocking though.

I think that there are only a couple of Games consul places in Udon. One just up from the lights on the Wattananuwong Road - near the two 802 Computer shops - Anorn??? or something like that - quite easy to spot. The other is almost next door to Steve's Bar in Prajaksinlapacom Road will probably miss if not walking...

The Iphone 4 with the older baseband can be unlocked. If you just bought it new it has the newer baseband. Wait a month or so they will have a unlock for it. I've unlocked alot of Iphones including my Iphone 4 from ATT in the States.
