Condoms and money - should see you right in the short term.

And I wish you lots of good luck (not that you will need it) :D

If you are a very large person or have large feet,I recommend bringing extra shoes and some extra clothes.Clothes are available in certain areas ,wide foot shoes are not!If your just coming for holiday, bring minimum amount of stuff!Serious medicine should be brought with you as counterfeits are abound here and not always of good quality.Although you can get meds of quality from the major hospitals!Leave your jewelry at home for holidays!Don't bother tanning unless you are doing it to prevent sunburn!Dark skin is not in favor here! :D

If you smoke then cigs are cheap here,if you like roll-ups most 7/11 stores tend to keep Drum/Samson and Golden V,(about ฃ3.50/pack) Rizzlas are available but not too common....Thai baccy starts at 3bht and papers at 1bht (no gum!...ya Roll,em Issan Style :D )
If you dont smoke.....all the cheaper and better culturally 8)

My motto for travelling anywhere is take half what you think you need and twice as much money.

You can buy pretty much anything here that you will need.

From the tone of your post's, I gather this is your first visit.
Learn a little about Thai culture, and go beyond temples and classical dance. Read up on Theraveda Buddhism, the Thai mindset. You can find a wealth of information here on the forum, dig through all the post's.
Learn a few Thai phrases. Get a pocket size English/Thai dictionary. Lonely Planet publishes a good one that includes Thai script, because they probably won't understand what you're trying to say, but at least you can point and show them the Thai word written in Thai.

Pack lightly, only one suitcase -- having laundry done is quick and cheap.

Inside that suitcase, fold another collapsible bag for "stuff" you buy during the visit.

Pack natural fabric (cotton) or synthetics that "wick" moisture. Make sure you have several shirts/slacks that are appropriate for nicer evening gatherings/dinners.

If you take prescription meds, bring a supply of those. Otherwise, we found anything we needed at the local pharmacy/grocery.

The pepto bismal or generic TABLETS are also handy to have with you
in case some of the food (airplane included) disagree's with you mildly
i find they worked better than the 6baht tabs here. for anything more
go to thai drug store and they will cure your ill quick enough.

You might make a copy of your passport and laminate it. Many tourists prefer to carry the copy and leave their passport in a safe. Some also make a copy of their ticket. Don't know if this is effective if your ticket is lost or stolen.

I'd recommend you set up a Yahoo or hotmail address and leave it with a trusted friend to advise you of emergencies (death and sickness) back home. Internet cafes are everywhere for checking about news from home. You could also set up electonic pay to pay home bills via computer.

Bring prescriptions for medication and eye glasses or contacts. Ear plugs to aid sleeping on the long noisy plare ride may be useful.

Bring a camera and film to capture the memories of Thailand. I prefer the camcorder myself. Bring a couple favorite music CDs for hotels that have CD players.

Travelers checks are a good idea, along with large denomination bills and a debit/credit card. Money should be new and clean. Thias do refuse to exchange certain year US hundred dollar bills and dirty or worn bills.

Bring addresses of friends who would appreciate receiving a holiday post card.

Set up a frequent flyer mileage account with the air service you are using. You wouldn't want to realize, after a few trips, that you could have had a free ride if those miles had been recorded.

I'd pack comfortable slippers to wear on the plane and in your hotel room and a small umbrella.

TJ's suggestions are excellent.

One thing I would add for sure -- no matter how you bring your funds (trav checks, debit card, cash) -- USE THE HOTEL SAFE.
