Try asking Andy of the City Lodge, aswell as being a professional chef he is also a musician. I think he plays the guitar and has regulary jams with a band, I'm sure he'll be able to point you in the right direction.

might of found one called 'Jazz', how unique. small place on phon phisai rd, map location m-n-7. small place w/table and chairs outside, then looks to be enclosed ac part back further off street. outside seating just above street level. drove by, noticed sign and took quick glance. next to carcare place, on right heading west to east. you'll notice wooden tables and chairs, sign at street/sidewalk level just past car care place. may share same parking lot. that would be something, a business with a parking lot.

I'd really like to listen to and play some jazz but I can't find a venue or fellow players here. I play jazz harmonica - standards with a little improv as well as 50s and 60s stuff, Brazilian etc. Can play limited blues but not really my thing.

Is there anybody out there?

Hi

As for LilRed, no jazz (even if i like listen) so maybe this is the wrong thread but anyway,

I also hope to find some guys to play some music with. I play the drums on a amateur level and my skills is not too impressive (I'm happy I don't have to make my living on it...) but I can play good enaugh for a hobby level band I think. The prefered music is Rock, blues, pop etc.

If somebody if interested, let me know and we will see if it could be something. I'll will be in Udon from september on and I have my own drums, electronic Roland (yeah i know, a little bit lame but with a biiig amplifier so... :D )

Play rhythm guitar, (elec & acoustic), to a fairly decent standard and would like to improve, therefore would be interested in getting together for some jamming with any likeminded 'muso's', purely on a fun/hobby type basis.

D -

Not sure what "fun/hobby" band means for you... I'd like to play in a well practiced band, with some other serious guys... Not for money or to tour, but for the improvement it brings in my playin singin skills, and maybe to get "downtown" successfully twice a month or so...

I played in two farang "fun/hobby" bands here since '05. Both fell apart, for a number of reasons, one of which was lack of serious interest, in favor of having too much fun... Guys'd show blitzed to da gills and just couldn't hang... We wound up bein able to play at 50 songs, but only a couple really kicked... I would prefer to have only 10 tunes in my list, but be able to really smoke 'em...

I have guitars, bass, banjo, amps and a nice Pearl drum kit... I have been playin with another dude, so, maybe we could pull together a full on band? I play guitar, bass and sing. The other dude plays guiatr and is willin to try on bass, and sings...

Anybody interested, please PM me.

I may be stupid but I don't get PM to work... Anyway, I'm wiling to give it a try. My motivation is not the issue and I agree to rather make 10 songs good than 50 just ok. However, I'm not sure I'm good enough for this, have played in some clubs many years ago but drunk people have the good taste to like more or less everything...

As I say, if it will be an open space for a drummer I'm willing to give it a try and then we will see if it's accepteble or not.

I will come to Udon the 2nd of September and we will stay at least a year.

Hi Guys

Hey LilRed. I dunno what PM me means but I’d like to get in touch with you and anybody out there who wants to make some fairly professional sounding music.
As I said in a previous post my thing is jazz but I’m reasonably versatile.

The music, for me, has to have a basic structure rather than a free for all so arrangements have to be worked out. There’s always jamming for fun of course.

I have a play list of about 100 or so songs I guess. If I know the song I can usually play most of it without practice.

LilRed, I see you play C&W. Well I don’t know much of it but usually there’s a strong melody to follow so I think that wouldn’t be too hard for me. Willie Nelson type stuff’s not difficult.

I play chromatic harmonicas (not blues harps) which have the full scale so can carry the song all the way through.

I don’t play drums but I’m no slouch on the congas – tuned to C & G.

Not Playing Jazz in Udon

Postby Arosolius » July 27, 2011, 10:14 am

Well it’s looking like I’m not going to find anybody to play jazz with in Udon so would anybody like to play something from the following list in a non Jazzy style – straight if you like. They’re all easy songs to learn, play and sing and I can usually carry the tune through the difficult parts if you can only play a bit of it.

The list:
Blue skies, Over the rainbow, Blowin’ in the wind, Whiter shade of pale, Summertime, Do you wanna dance, Dianna, Dream lover, 500 miles, Bye bye blackbird, Autumn leaves, Stormy weather, Knockin on Heaven’s door, Jambalaya, Under the boardwalk, Blue bayou, Spanish Harlem, Help me make it through the night, Cecilia, Feelin Groovy, Fool on a hill, Rollin on the River, The letter, Lookin out my back Door Obla di obla da, Isn’t she lovely, Sloop John Bee, Raining in my heart, Danny boy, Georgia on my mind, Under the boardwalk, Bad moon arising, Rollin on the river, Our love is here to stay, Peggy Sue, Rockin Robin, Fly me to the moon, Someone to watch over me.

There’s nearly a repertoire there and we can add whatever you can play too & I can throw in a number of instrumentals as fillers that need a minimum of backing.
