John Terry Incident

Postby old-timer » February 8, 2012, 2:44 pm

Seems crazy to OT how John Terry can be charged for saying what he did to Ferdinand. Had he said stupid c or dirty c or anything but black c he would not be facing the charges he is today.
OT does not have a racist bone in his body, and I've got WFB's to prove it, however I have said the words John Terry is accused of when a black person has irritated me. They're just words that are spewed out in the heat of the moment and are not meant to be taken as racial.
The world is going bonkers, first it was and still is mad on health and safety and now its moved on to what you are allowed to say.
When an explorer finds a bunch of tribesman in the jungle, and they start chucking their spears at him shouting all sorts of racial abuse and telling him to fcuk off, will he mention it to the authorities and get them charged with racial abuse, because those tribesmen really did mean it.

Yes, I've got to agree. The whole thing has been blown out of proportion. As for Fredinand he should reflect on his allegation, go home and change his nappy. I don't particularly like Terry but I hope he's acquitted. It's my taxes which are paying towards the Crown prosecution. Yet again a waste of public money. Every week we see nasty fouls committed, which in my book is an assault. Having said that if the police were to prosecute there would be no room in the courts for some of the trivial offences that we hear about. Football used to be a Mans game before the do-gooders and civil rights brigade started to influence decisions.
Just one more point it is a criminal offence to use the word fcuk or c+nt towards insulting another person. Section 13 [[i]/i]metroploitan Police Act 1839. This has probably been replaced by the Public Order Act. Fortunately the police still have discretion as to whether they take action or not. In this case they should have just been told to "get on with the game" and don't be so silly.

I do not see how this fits the category in relation to John Terry. Thais have said this to me on occasion when warranted without the 'farang', and in those instances the justice of the remark was well earned by me. On the other hand, I have told Thais/Isaan people 'som nam naa' as well. No big deal really.

However, if you use the saying, 'kwan teen', expect immediate trouble unless the person is a very good friend.

At sporting events in some countries, one must be very careful not to use racially loaded terms in this day and age or they will be subjected to intense scrutiny by the media, officials and the public.

By the way, 'som nom naa' has a very different meaning to 'som nam naa' as 'nom' refers to a part of the female anatomy.

Fabio Capello quits as England manager after meeting with FA

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/16941457

The complete saga is a mess.
Don't quite know where to start with which bit is the biggest mess...
Stupid for Terry to have ever got himself in this situation....but he has a bit of a rightfully deserved reputation for stupidity.
Stupid for Anton Ferdinand to have 'officially' reported it as he will not come out of this all sweetness & light with what happens on a football pitch.
Stupid for the police to have ever got involved. If there is racist chanting from the crowd, easy to sort. Look at video evidence, guaranteed prosecution of those involved. Get involved in a 'he says/she says' incident seems a complete waste of money to me.
FA handled it poorly. They should have convinced the police authorities that they would deal with it & then dealt with it. Once they failed to do that then it was out of their hands & they should have taken no action until after a trial had been completed.

The FA have also now managed to achieve the virtual impossible.
They have got rid of a manager who should have gone after the World Cup. However they have let him go claiming the high moral ground for his leaving, something that I would have thought to be virtually impossible..
