Keeping Fit

Zidane wrote:But the 15 mins around Nong Prajak was just an example really.Quite often its a couple of times around there or 4 times around Nong Sim (about 3 miles) or a 2-3 mile lapped course around the estate where I live.
But 15 minutes in this heat and humidity is not a bad run.The cool season Nov-Dec is a lot better....the temperature dipped to 7c a few nights in January and it was similar to running in the UK in March !
By all means pm me when you are over Fawn and we'll sort a run out.....a couple of beers afterwards....maybe bm,Lee or arjay might make an appearance.....for the beer at least !

A spiffing idea, although BM will be back in the UK. Do you use any GPS to measure your runs? I've got a Garmin Forerunner but it's just died a death. These are handy for training and give you accurate distance unless you're running through dense woodland. It would be good to measure the NP circuit.

The run around Nong Prajak is actually measured/marked in paint every 100 metres. If I remember correctly the distance is shown as 3.170 kilometres all around, although I find that a little generous.
Same with Nong Sim with the total distance being just over three quarters of a mile (cant remember the kms).
I dont measure the distances myself but over the years I've got to know what pace I am running at.In Udon there is only really the lakes to run around although I have seen joggers running around the perimeter of Udon Airport, something I can never recall seeing at Heathrow. 8)
By the way, another runner is BKKSTAN from Nong Khai,he could come with arjay.

Yes doing a runner in Udon seems a very popular sport right now, with huge distances being stated.

I wouldn't classify myself as a runner, more like a hard driving plonker with a very heavy sounding shoe to the pavement!
I push myself for a little over 4 KMs in the morning ,about 35-40 minutes depending on how tired my feet and legs are and usually do 5-7Kms on the treadmill in the afternoons at 8 minutes a KM.The treadmill pushes me ,I run and walk fast in the morning about 3-1!I can usually do about 1KM running at a time with short walks in between,I would never make it around Nong Prajak running w/o breaks!
I have cut back on the afternoon workouts alot lately,as my weight(my main goal)has been managable at around 100 kilos!I could probabl push to 90 kilos, but I am tired of working so hard
100 years ago, when I was in High School,I ran the mile, because I was the slowest athlete in running sprint type races,my best finish was 5th at one meet

My view is that running is relative and they'll always be someone faster or slower than me. The important bit is getting up off your backside and putting one foot in front of the other in all weathers. I always liked the camaraderie among runners, they always say hello when they pass each other.

I'm a walker and I did make the effort around NP for the whole month last xmas except 2 or 3 days when I was well hungover. Never once ran into another falang, but I always set off at 7.00 and was back in my room by 8.30. Maybe a bit early for some :D

Correct wazza.
Sometimes when I'm out running the Thai males show their wicked sense of humour with shouts of "farang","hey you"
and "pumphouy" but this is more than offset by the pretty young Thai ladies either walking or jogging around Nong Prajak or Nong Sim and the stimulation it gives to me. ;)

2- stunners 3.2 km, large group of students

3- Expat sitting on park bench 1.4 km drooling

That's the positive aspect to running - girls also like to keep fit. Go to a 10km race these days and you'll see loads of girls running. They also like to wear lycra which shows off everything. The same goes for the gym, tons of girls in there.

ahh yes the Udon 1/2 marathon sponsored by Camel Toe fashion shops in Central and the Night Market area.

One thing i do dislike is being called " hey you" as per Zidanes post. Ok tuk tuk drivers exempt, but the young people , not on, hello, sawadee, etc

So when im out n about and need the attention of a thai for some service etc, the "hey you " pops out a tad.
