Living in the crosshairs

Postby Thai_1_On » August 29, 2006, 4:56 am

I though I would let the members know the here in Melbourne Fl. looks like we may have a hurricane coming our way. So far we are at a hurricane watch but I dont know if we will have to evacuate till tomorow. I personally wont leave if the storm is going to be a Cat. 1 or 2 but anything stronger it will be time to go.

I do have my supplys ready mainly 2 bottles of Scotch but I do need to get a few bottles of soda   In the event that this storm turns in to a monster and we lost the house and business well I'll be moving to Udon a little ahead of schedule :?

You should be OK on this one. As I write this, the Tropical Storm, Ernesto, is about 100 miles south of Miami with a chance of developing into a Cat 1 as it makes landfall. We are 30 miles north of Miami so by the time it reaches Melbourne, you might see it as a Tropical Depression. Keep the scotch handy, anyway. You're right . These hurricanes make it easier to decide to leave this place for Udon. Old Ma Nature just had to give us another kick in the arse, I guess.

Just a little update... it's 11:35 PM here and the air has that strange still feeling. I know poor Polehawk is going to get it worst than me :( Not worry though I have been through at least 4 or 5 hurricanes and many other coastal resident's will agree that if it's a small storm it's a good excuse for a hurricane party

As I write this Polehawk is most likely being starting to feel Ernesto's bite. Not to worry I'm sure he has his "survival" chest well stocked. I myself got done with work and did what any responsible person would do in the face of a storm like this coming this way...I went and played a round of golf with my little brother and made sure I had enough ice, soda, beer, and scotch in my "survival" chest

With any luck if I have power during the storm I'll post whats happening and if I see anything cool I'll post pictures too but looks like the storm might fall apart. As you may see I am in the storms path that will bring the eye right over the house here so if the storm stays together I may be able to show you the storms swirling clouds on the horizon

Board up the windows and settle in for the wind and water, Thai_1_on.

Up Interstate-75 in Atlanta, we have a "cold" front moving in from the northwest and hitting the warm air from Ernesto to the southeast -- HUGE storm last night, lots of lightning strikes. One bolt hit a 100 ft oak tree in the ravine behind my house -- KA-BOOM!! This is what we call thunder-boomers. I had to remove limbs from the driveway this morning to leave for work, and Ernesto isn't even here yet.

Now downgraded to a Tropical Depression. We got some winds and rain but seen worse thunderstorms down here. Sounds like Gulfcoast's area got more than we did last night. They're saying that this system could redevelop into a TS or Cat 1 once it gets out over the warm Atlantic gulfstream. If so, the Carolinas might get some of it.

We've only lived down here for six years so Thai_1_On or others probably have been through a lot more of these but, IMO, the worst part of hurricanes is the aftermath when power is down for a few days or longer. No electricity, no TV or computer, no water or ice.....dang, did people really used to live like that?

Gulf Coast, please tell me "limbs is another American term for branches. I've got this horrible picture in mind of arms and legs everywhere.

What a dull storm but it was good for a day off :D I did fire up the bottle of cheap scotch (save the good stuff fo a real storm) but it was a good test run to get ready if a real huricane does show up and if it does :guiness: :drunk: \:D/

Val,

Yes, "limbs" are "branches." Forgive the colonists' bastardizing of the Language.
