Location of where you like to drink

Bit harder as it can vary from who you are with and whats the occasion , but use your head and think about it being when u go out to a pub or bar for a drink with friends , or alone etc

No hesitation for me on this one. Definitely Central type establishments. where else would you get to view so much eye candy without buying them a drink?

Although I don’t normally think about what motivates me as to where I go for a drink, giving it some thought, it is slightly more complex than just the price of beer and would comprise of, but not be limited to:

Motivators:

• No hassle.
• No hustle.
• Intelligent company (allowance made for some football fans).
• Food availability (on or near the premises).
• Personable owner and staff.
• Ability to have a quiet cigarette with my drink (on or near the premises).
• Quiet background music (preferably 60’s & 70’s).

Demotivators:

• Prices above market average (for comparable establishments).
• Shouts such as “Hello, Welcome” and comments indicating that the staff are suffering from considerable visual impairment
• Noisy foreground music, especially (c)rap and similar modern rubbish.

A low beer price is not, in itself, a motivator, however an above market average price when compared to similar establishments is a demotivator (and the establishment is almost certainly destined to become one of the legions of “here today and gone tomorrow” places that we have seen over the last few years).

When I go to the night market, it is for the company I expect to find there – the low price for beer is a bonus; if I go to a well furnished A/C establishment it is with the expectation that I will be paying a suitable premium for the comfort.

Somewhere where I can get free pool, football on TV, good food, air con and a small Leo for 50baht. Company is optional.

One word, GIRLS

Alot of ferangs wont admit it but at the end of the day if the girls are good, the prices go out of the window to a certain extent.

If your looking around for bars and an you see a dead bar with a couple of girls in and the leo is 50 baht, then you look next door and theres about 7 girls with a few fernags in an a bit of good music, and they charge 70 baht for a small leo.....then its all good just go there.

Dont get me wron not all ferangs are like that, they like to drink at places like fuzzy kens, where theres no girls, its away from all the other bars, its quiet, cheap beer and full of ferangs...no some see that as perfect which is fair enough....i see it as pointless but everyone is valid an opinion.

If i want to eat, i want it to be quiet like cats bar (UP2U) but if im drinking then forget fuzzy kens (no offence its just personal preference)

I think it goes without saying that apart from education, wine, health , roads , public security....

I imagine that bars that are offering Long necks , buy 3 get 10 baht off etc, wont be offering much when it comes to company or good service. Service costs money and that ups the price of the beverages that are sold.

A guy who is keen to keep 10 Baht in his pocket is probably not going to buy a lady drink etc.... unless they can buy a coke bottle and slip a glass to her to quench her thirst without being stung for the lady drink.

There you go again, trying to defend the indefensible. No one is worried about 10 Baht at all. But excessive over pricing that is something else.
Company. Get some friends.
Service. Cant say it is ever a problem in any Thai bar.
Lady Drink. DONT DO IT !!! Give the girl hard cash in her pocket.

Sorry,. but where have i said that I personally am concerned about the price of beer.

I have started up 4 posts on various issues on the location, prices, etc of local beer places in Udon , as a result of many OP's concerns regarding the availability of long neck Leo beer, and why they like it and why some bar owners dont stock it.

Never once have i said that the price of beer influences my decision to drink anywhere. In fact I voted to say it doesnt influence my decision.

I said that the price of beer would probably rise if a bar owner supplied a higher level of service, ie another 4500 Baht for 1 more salaried worker, and thats reflected in the increased cost of running the bar , and ultimately thats at the counter on the check bins.

My posts are statements / interpretations of some of the replies to date.

4500 Baht for one worker is only 150 Baht per day, not enough to justify a price increase. But i do get your meaning.
It cant be easy running a bar anywhere in Thailand these days.
TG has an Issan/Thai restaraunt in Pattaya, open 24 hours a day.Her busiest time is 2-6Am when a lot of the working girls, finish their shift.
It has got to the stage where i have started supporting her again as business is so slow.

Ok let talk about what a bar owner pay to the girls on a daily rate. Bargirl 100 Bath, waithres 125bath Cashier 150 Bath, just as a indication! Prices are +- And even less what i mention here above!

And you have fines, bar girls come to late, girls are not willing, Etc, This go less from there payment.

Before the staff members where alowing to puth the empthy bottles money in there own pocked, now forget it, the boss take all.

Before a bargirl had a 50%/50%, on a lady dfrink, Now the have only 'maybe' 40% iff the are lucky.

Price off the beer? I went out today to find it out. Around 50 Bath fore a piss. Big piss around around 80 Bath, with CONDOM! Even cheaper in Nan's place!

So don,t comment me about the cheating bar owners start to do here in Udon, Even BKK is cheaper.

By thr way, i,m not a cheap charly, pay fore my breackfast 262 Bath, and on the end of now, i presume all togheter about 5000 Bath. But i like large beer with condom, what ever some cheap charly bar owners are telling me.

most of the farang bar owners here. are in cuckoo land .
they think by opening a bar.. farangs will be queing up , for the pleasure of visiting them.

there are a few excemptions .
these are the places that ALLWAYS have customers . nuff said .

p.s. a lot of the crak has left the udon bar scene .

What is it about men of maturing years. That makes them throw caution to the wind.
Move to a foreign country and buy a bar. When they have never run a business, lived in a foreign contry before or can speek the language of that country.
Is it me being a Cheap Charley or my common sence preventing my stupid ideas coming to the fore ?
