Man hits railway barrier on motorbike

Postby Ing_udon » November 10, 2009, 3:14 pm

5Th November 2009, Mr.Churdchai Phusrinaam, a 24 years old man from Muang, Udon Thani, was taken to the Prajaksilapakom Hospital urgently after an accident on his motorcycle.

Mr.Churdchai crashed his motorbike into a the railway barrier at Robmuang road (Bypass Khon kaen-Sakonakorn) Mr.Churdchai knew the train 'Udonthani-Nakonrachasrima' was coming but he didn't want to waste his time. He thought he could pass it in time, but it was a bit too late. The barrier came down and he crashed into it at full speed. He was knocked into the air and found lying several meters away. He was hurt badly. The police are investigating.

Just as a point reference to all these news items that so far only relate to Thai on Thai crime or Thai only accidents, would it be more beneficial for the forum just to use news items if farang are involved?
Am sure all these daily reports are posted in good intention but, like this report,IMO only gives an insight into what we know already,Thai driving is pretty poor.
Presumably the police when they are say they are investigating, is probably only to see if he had a helmet with him at the time

"news items that so far only relate to Thai on Thai crime or Thai only accidents"

I'd vote for all the news fit to print. Our gardener was whacked over the head after a Loy Kratung festival by a gang of kids on motorbikes. He died two days later. Is it worthwhile knowing that events like these take place, or is ignorance bliss? I like the common perception that living in Udon is very safe (and, in fact, I believe it is). But a good portion of that perception is due to ignorance.....not reading Thai newspapers, not listening to the Thai news, etc.

I watch Home news everyday so not ignorant of what goes on, daily on the news shows motorbike accidents, the odd burglary,ya ba busts. If every incident is going to be posted then,is the poster trying to make out that these incidents are more than just the norm now in a town the size of Udon.

In your instance an incident with someone you know and a sad loss.

I watch Home news everyday

i don't, or get any news, so this is great for me. great to know what's going on, especially thai/thai, as we usually here about thai/farang, so this help keep that false sense of security away, which i think we all get. sure crime is much worst than we think, i know the driving is, though i see very few accidents, i know at least 1 person a day dies on the roads here, so we miss a lot. it was well over 400 a yr when i 1st moved here, and with increased traffic/population, got to be at least the same or more.

again, nice job Ing. 8)

..again, nice job Ing.

Yes, indeed, it's great, keeping us in touch with local news. :D

It's a "News Forum", for the posting of News items. It's for the reader to decide what he wants to read and what doesn't interest him, as with any other news media like TV or newspapers. ;)

Yes, nice to know what is going on around here. For those who find some of it redundant, perhaps "lng_udon" can code something in the title, such as, Thai, Thai/Farang, Farang

But, I enjoy the news, please keep it coming =D>

It may be off topic, but is in the vein of other posts on the thread:

Although I am mainly interested in international news I do like to know the local news wherever I am - whether it is good or bad.

Much as I love Thailand, I always feel a bit out of the information loop when I’m there because my appalling lack of Thai language skills means I’m frequently oblivious to items of interest to the local population.

Although I read the Bangkok Post and The Nation on a regular basis they simply do not fulfil a local news function for Udon and the surrounding area.

Whether one wants to know what is going on or not is a personal choice; many people in the west quite happily live their lives in blissful ignorance of (or sometimes in total denial of) what is going - but that is their freely exercised choice.

We are all different - maybe a little bit more respect and tolerance for other people and their choice of how they want to live their lives will help us get along a little better.

Agree, something in the title would help to allow me to follow Arjays advice.
Udondee and Udonpolice websites used to be the point of source for many news items for Udon Thani under the heading 'other Udon Thani websites' on the front page of Udonmap.

Thanks for the feedback about the news items. :D

The news translations are for the benefit of those who do not watch the local news regularly or for those who's Thai language skills are not up to par.

With regards nationalities, I think covering all news is the way to go, rather than restricting to farang news only. This way it gives us a fair balanced view of what's going on in Udon. If it helps we can name the nationality's in the topic titles.

With regards to Ing, she translates the news and I tidy it up if needed. I'm paying for her time to translate and post the articles but I haven't asked her to join in discussions, so don't expect a reply just yet. ;)

Thanks Lee this really sets Udonmap apart from others. I enjoy it, the magic answer is always is pass on it if you don't like it. Personally I look forward to it.

One thing else I will add translating the Thai language into english is not an easy task.

'Lee, Like Jimbo, I have virtually no Thai language skills at this time, so the local Thai news just isn't an option for me. Please thank Ing for all of her hard work to keep us informed.
Being a relative newbie to Udon Thani, I feel like I'm completely ignorant(though not blissfully :-s ) of the goings-on around the area. Since joining Udonmap a short time ago, I feel like I've stumbled onto a treasure trove of information on or about Udon, and I cannot thank all of you enough for passing on your experiences and knowledge here. It's much appreciated.
