Martial Arts Advice

Postby westerby » March 24, 2009, 3:49 am

Chaps, I need some advice on my Kung Fu and I know some of you practise the dark arts.

I'm sure the different disciplines have a common thread running through them with regard to Chi. I'd like to understand how these disciplines focus or concentrate their Chi to derive power. I'm getting hacked off at class because I'm being told all the time that it will come but I think I'm missing something.

Can anyone help?

Aaahhh grasshopper, you can only be shown the path, ultimate realization must
come from within oneself. When you are ready, the truth will be made apparent.
In other words, I also don't know, sorry.

Chi (or Ki) is basically developed by:

1. Controlled breathing
2. Repitition of a movement (you need to practice each movement 10 000 times to perfect)
3. Contemplation (meditation)

Your instructor cannot "teach" you Chi, or a particular movement, but can only correct your breathing and movements until you "understand" - you will both know when that moment of "understanding" comes.

Be patient grasshopper

:-k :-k :-k :-k

Grasshoppers are insects of the suborder Caelifera in the order Orthoptera. To distinguish them from bush crickets or katydids, they are sometimes referred to as short-horned grasshoppers. Species that change colour and behaviour at high population densities are called locusts.

Gosh, lots of answers and so many references to Grasshoppers but nothing of any substance, chaps.

I reckon this the part where I stamp my feet and throw a Wendy...but I can't be bothered.

Thanks for replying with the witticisms, particularly yours, LA (outstanding mate). Not sure who the comic book hero was though.

:-k I'm sure I've seen Posters with profiles that state they're into the martial arts - maybe they're shy about giving out advice.

OK Mods, lock this one up before it gets out of control (please).

Getting back in control a little Westerly....
Its a mysteriuos cosmic power westers,,,but sure you know that already,Maybe you need the right attitude with the desire to learn, have you the right attitude and a fervant devotion to learn/practise young Westers..?...sounds like you have from your previous postings and knowledge, guess it comes with time and devotion...everyone must have it in them, coxing it out sounds like not an easy thing to do, so i see why you are asking the question.

Do you meditate Westers..?
