Melt Me - UD Town

Postby lee » October 21, 2011, 2:07 pm

I love Chocolate and most sweet stuff so I was happy to hear about a new shop called 'Melt Me' opening Soon in UD Town. Apparently they serve healthy Japanese style chocolates & gelato (Sounds too good to be true), if that's the case then I will be a regular customer for sure. Melt Me is owned by the wife of Tan Passakornnatee (see quote below), the founder of Oishi Group Plc.http://www.melt-me.com/

Tan Passakornnatee was born in a poor family and had to stop studying to work at age of seventeen. At first, he worked as a laborer then as a bookseller before he started a business; surprisingly, he had done business in various fields such as coffee shop, gift shop, and beauty salon. Consequently, he had a lot of invaluable experience which illuminated an idea of investing in Japanese restaurant market in Thailand and made it into reality without any problems. At that time in Thailand, investing in Japanese restaurant market was considered as high-risk because of public sentiment toward Japanese restaurants as extravagant. Despite the risk, Tan Passakornatee, however, managed to prosper as he made Thai people feel familiar with Japanese food by Oishi green tea which is new and affordable, and built a strong connection with the media. Nowadays, Oishi Group has become well-known to all Thais regardless of sex and age, and without doubt Tan Passakornnatee is recognized as one of the richest people of Thailand.

Melt Me - UD Town

Postby rct » October 31, 2011, 1:07 pm

October 29th around 09h30, upon leaving Wawee after a nice "large" Latte for 75 baht, we noticed quite a few people waiting around what was going to be some event at Melt Me. My wife inquired, and learned that if we were among the first 100 people who signed up, we would get a plastic doll (a piggy bank in fact). So we got in line, eventually signed up, then learned 350 baht purchase required to get the free doll (and we signed up two people, each must buy) and must be there after 11h00 for the opening etc. At this point I wanted to call it quits, both due to time and also price as I did not want our children to eat desserts and ice cream before lunch which we had planned elsewhere, but my wife insisted we get those bloody dolls.

Well, after watching some of the "Harajuku girls" style promotion going on and approaching 12h00, kids hungry for lunch, my wife bought a couple boxes of chocolates to take home, and received her two dolls. Yesterday I opened one of the boxes of chocolates, and could not believe my eyes, there were ten very tiny chocolates inside (quite nice and creative looking however). So about 35 baht each. This place has an attractive atmosphere and might be a treat for a Gelato or coffee (99 baht for a coffee) consumed on site, though the take away chocolates a bit too high end for my tastes. For 35 baht per piece, I believe I can settle for some Godiva or other imported Belgian delicacies

And the two dolls, I put them in the store room with all the other crap that gets accumulated by the love of my life.

Just had the 199 baht chocolate fondue with fruit, must admit it was very nice.

And those expensive little chocolates we took home from opening day, also addicitvely delicious. I think this veue will thrive albeit with mostly well heeled patrons.
