Midnight Munchies

Postby old-timer » February 3, 2011, 11:51 am

I don't know what it is with OT lately, but whenever I get up during the night to take a pee, I end up heading to the fridge to raid it for something or other to stuff my face with before going back to bed. This morning there was half a pineapple, half a pint of yougurt and a few chunks of chocolate missing from what I had raided last night. I've not had any alcholol for a few days, maybe that's whats causing it ?

Ot, I had the same thing happen a few years ago. With me it weas usually sweet things like fizzy drinks and chocolate. I went to the doc for a check up and happened to mention it to him. He sent me for blood tests immediately thinking maybe I was diabetic. I wasnt thank God and just put it down to my sweet tooth. But if it continues maybe you should have a test done. Dont want to freak you out and as Ive said above, Im fine.

I've got to have a job related full medical check up, coming up this month, maybe they can tell me if I'm diabetic or bonkers. I was thinking of locking the fridge, but then I'd know where the key was anyway. The 6 Nations Rugby starts friday so i'll have a few beers then. If the fridge is still in tact on Saturday morning I'll put these midnight munch binges down to being sober.

If your a heavy drinker, good chance it's just the lack of alcohol :drunk: ....

I am having a month off the booze and experiencing the usual same old thing OT, the dreaded midnight munchies and restless sleep, it is just a sign of your body screaming out for the usual quickly available carbohydrates in the booze, most heavy drinkers get the same cravings...the pattern is usually the same..

At least you are healthy snacking with yogurts and fruits, avoid the chocolate though......

It's not easy staying sober and healthy in Udon.... :guiness:

20 plus years ago when I was alcoholic and a binge drinker I would wake up every morning with my usual hangover and the delirious tremors. I went straight for another drink because I thought that was the only thing that would balance me back out. Years later when I learned about low blood glucose levels (hypoglycemia) and it's symptoms, I understood that for all those years it wasn't another drink that I needed...but sugar...which my body produced when I drank again. When I started drinking I never wanted to eat anything because I didn't want to ruin my HIGH. I made myself into an alcoholic out of sheer ignorance of the correlation between food/drink intake and blood sugar levels. For those of you who read this post and the "light" comes on, just Google hypoglycemia and you could very well be on your way to staying sober forever.

God Bless!

The light came on for me when I stopped drinking and realised how long I'd been wasting my life sh!tfaced. But you probably went through that as well Semper Fi.

No midnight munchies for me, I usually overeat after visiting the gym, it gives me a huge appetite.
