Migrants marrying UK citizens must now learn English

Postby ThaiVisaExpress » June 15, 2010, 2:00 pm

09 June 2010: Migrants marrying UK citizens must now learn English. Compulsory English language tests will be introduced for non-European migrants applying to come to the UK to join or marry their settled partner. The new rules will apply from autumn 2010 to anyone applying as the husband, wife, civil partner, unmarried partner, same-sex partner, fiance(e) or prospective civil partner of a UK citizen or a person settled in this country. The compulsory English language test will be with a UK Border Agency approved test provider and will apply to visa applications from overseas as well as people applying from within UK. The full news report can be found on the UK Border Agency website.

Better late than never, but shutting the door after the horse has bolted, the UK is awash with hordes of muslims from Pakistan and Somalia. I think this knee-jerk reaction is aimed at them.

The US needs to implement it, also.

Merely reflects the xenophobic, insular nature of Britain.
Whatever happened to the diversity is good -- at any cost -- attitude?
Time to flip-flop back to the other extreme?

I imagine the Brit expat population of Thailand would boil down to near zero if Thais instituted a similar discriminatory policy of a Thai language test at immigration checkpoints.

But then again, Thai isn't proper, is it?

Wrongheaded policy.

The experiment with diversity and multicultralisim went out the window long ago.
The main concerns with the man on the Clapham Omnibus is immigration from Pakistan and Somalia.
When the rag tops get to the UK, they don't want any thing to do with the Nudils (Piece of ****, or animal excrement).
Infidels is the polite form of address.

I don't worry too much about that, I'm here like the rest of us on the whim of the immigration guy who stamps my passport with 90 days. We are not immigrants here, just glorified tourists.

But then again, Thai isn't proper, is it?

Wrongheaded policy.
