O/T, My team seem to think it's a litchi or lychee (in the top left corner).

And yes they have been eating and enjoying longans this week.

I'll take the hit for 2009 because on bad advice, we pruned the trees back too far. But now they're as big as they were in 07 -- nuthin'.

I fertilize the trees, trim them, mow around them, suffer their existence.

And what do I get in return? Nuthin. I'm currently blaming the bees. Haven seen any in years.

I'm considering paving the whole lot.

Any suggestions? (yes, I know, concrete rather than asphalt) :(

MY kids set up a rope on a tyre on one of the lam yai trees and swung on it for months, they also climbed it, abused it, p1ssed up it, and by mistake, set it on fire with a firework that was meant for one of their mates. It was the only tree around that had fruit on it the following season. Try doing that for the next year. Could work out.

Got a feeling your team are right arjay. I get them in a tin sometimes and seem to remember the name now.

Yes~ .... fire .... in the dry season.... might save me some chopping. Few lits of 91 and... whoosh!, a parking lot.

Thanks OT. Always good for some useful advice.

I wouldn't be so quick with the plow, texpat. Our lamyais didn't produce this year, and most of our neighbors didn't as well. Same same with our mangos and makmao. I'd be more prone to believe it's a weather related thing, although the wife says it's all about the double eighth month in the Thai calendar this year. Whatever the reason, I'd be willing to bet the fruit will return next year.
Our bee population this year seems to be normal. Where there have been flowers, there have been plenty of bees, so I don't think that's the cause of the fruit-less trees.

A friend of mine has a small plot of fruit trees and he said that the heavy rain killed off the harvest this year! :(
