Something to keep in mind when buying SOLID wooden furniture here in Thailand if you plan to use it inside an air conditioned house. Unless the wood is properly kiln dried before assembly & finishing it will most likely crack, shrink, seperate or warp. The reason is that an airconditioned enviroment will continually remove the moisture from the wood causing damage to the wood. It may take a few months before the wood distorts, sooner if the environment is airconditioned continuously. I know of only 1 factory (there may be more) here in Thailand which produces high quality properly kiln dried SOLID wooden furnture (not veneer on top of particle board/plywood). I believe the name is Singluck (or close to that) and it's located in Chiang Mai. They produce beautiful (read expensive) furniture in a variety of hardwoods which will probably outlast most of us.
I know of only 1 lumber mill here in the Udon area which will sell you kiln dried lumber. Once again there may be more. The mill is located about 20kms outside Udon on the road to Loei. It's easy to identify by the very tall smokestack. You will have to tell them how long you want the lumber to remain in their oven as I don't think they have anything to test the moisture content of the wood.
