Moral Values Sexy Student in Hot Water

Postby jingjai » February 17, 2007, 7:35 pm

I've heard a few other starlets are in the same hot water and are actually being blacklisted for future movies roles because of wearing revealing attire to the Thai Movie Award Show. Hmmm?

MORAL VALUES SEXY STUDENT IN HOT WATER

Varsity warned over move to punish Amy

SIRIKUL BUNNAG

A rights activist has urged Thammasat University to be careful in punishing its student actress Chotiros ''Amy'' Suriyawong for wearing a revealing costume during a film awards ceremony. Nathaya Boonpakdi of the Foundation for Women's Health said the university had to take into consideration any infringement of an individual's rights before taking any punitive action against Miss Chotiros.

She said the student might claim that she wore the sexy outfit outside the campus and that she did not make any reference to the university.

Ms Nathaya was speaking following a move by the university to take disciplinary action against the actress.

Miss Chotiros, a third-year student of the liberal arts faculty, hit the headlines when she wore a sexy black gown during the Supannahong Film Awards Ceremony in Nakhon Ratchasima on Friday night.

Prinya Thaewanarumitkul, the university's vice-rector for student affairs, said yesterday that the university could not ignore the matter.

He said the dean of the liberal arts faculty will tomorrow invite Miss Chotiros to give reasons why she wore the outfit.

The university and the faculty would meet to consider what steps would be taken against the actress as they had to set a standard for students who enter the entertainment world.

Possible disciplinary action ranged from warnings, probationary orders or suspension of studies, to a delay in approving a degree request and dismissal.

Mr Prinya said Miss Chotiros may not be asked to suspend her studies or have her degree request put on hold as such punishments would be too harsh.

Sitthichoke Varanusantikul, dean of the liberal arts faculty, said he has assigned deputy dean for student affairs Passapong Sripijarn and Khanittha Sripaiboon, adviser to Miss Chotiros, to invite the actress and her parents for a talk tomorrow.

Mr Sitthichoke said severe punishments against the student are not being considered for the time being.

The faculty first had to know the reasons that drove her to dress inappropriately.

''The university has not supported its students in wearing sexy outfits. This incident sends a warning signal that we must work out measures to prevent a recurrence of such a case. This incident reflects the descent of Thai society.

''The university as an educational institute has to take responsibility for this incident. We should pay more attention to the conduct of our students and teach them what is appropriate,'' he said.

He defended the university's move to warn the actress about her dress, saying the warning should not be viewed as an infringement of an individual's rights.
