  :lol:Which are the best? Guess it depends on ''How High and How Low''you feel or want to feel :) There seem to be some little sized lakes in the township and I got a bit lost one time and drove up a ''small hill''.Other than those, you will have to transport yourself around to various areas for ''mountains'',lakes, rivers and waterfalls.A nice daytrip experience IMO :) Ckok Dee

Head towards Phu Foilom, a lovely park set in the mountains. You can camp there and the views are wonderful.
On the way call in at the Thanngaam waterfall.
Both are about 40K from Udon Thani....there is a short cut but it's hard to find.

The other big National Park with mountains and lakes is Phu Pra Bat.

There are small (voluntary) entry fees to enter the parks. I usually opt for 20 bhat a person plus 20 for the car.
Life's a beach.

I must admit to finding this cross Atlantic banter difficult to follow at times. Who was it said"two great nations seperated by a common language"? Or something like that anyway.

I too would recommend Phu Ruea National Park in Loie, though it's quite a long drive from Udon, so an overnight stay may be preferable. And Phu Foilom and Phu Pra Bat are both worthy of a visit. :D

Khon Kaen

Ubonrat is a lovely lake near Khon Kaen. It was formed by a dambut its a scenic area with lots to do...It is worth the trip. The Phru bat park is worth a day trip--its a scenic drive and a great place for a hike..although it can get very hot there

Loei is only 30-40 minutes by plane (Nok Air). You can leave on Friday afternoon and return Sunday evening, but remember the parks are closed for the rain season and will re-open in November I think.
