Mr. Sushi - new Japanese on Srichumchen Road

Postby parrot » January 5, 2012, 7:08 pm

"Thais love discounts on food and when it expires, back to the noodle shops"

We noticed the same thing when we went back shortly after they stopped offering their opening discount.

I wonder how many of these places a city like Udon can keep in business? UD Town has Oishi Big, Oishi Express, Shabushi, and Nikuya. A few weeks ago a friend invited us to Oishi Big for lunch buffet. All you can eat for something like 450 baht...but you have a 2 hour time limit. We did this sort of thing at Nikuya for a dinner party.......we easily ate our money's worth. But for lunch?? My wife and I felt kind of bad for the hosts (who paid) as we're more of a noodle-soup-for-lunch pair than all-you-can-eat-for-lunch.
The food was okay, but nothing I'd go back for....lunch or supper.

Parrot am not quite sure what your last post meant, previously you gave good review of Nikuya.

Though seeing you as a relatively thin person, I thought you followed the adage that one should

Breakfast like a king
Lunch like a prince
And dine lika a pauper

Sorry about the confusing post - the 2 hour lunch buffet was at Big Oishi. Food was okay, but no way could I eat 450 baht worth of food for lunch.
The ?2 hr? dinner meal at Nikuya was a pleasure. I think the food was of higher quality, you cooked it the way you wanted it over a grill.....and being supper, I ate like a King!

My adage: bowl of cereal and coffee for breakfast, noodle soup or equivalent for lunch, and eat well for supper. Unfortunately, lots of snacks in between.
