Picking up on this a month later but (and I am surprised there is no response) I never heard that single entry type 0 visas are not available at Thai Embassy Vientiane.
papaguido may have a record of conformation to the question in his actual experience.

Let me know what you find out.

Affirmative for Imm "O" based on marriage & education, not for retirement.

The only limitation I have heard of is the Udon Immigration office only giving a 7 day extension to the 3 month Non Imm O, should be 2 months. Also told the big bossman at Udon has taken up to 3k bht to extend for 2 months. All hearsay so don't quote me.

Extensions may be granted up to 60 days. It's not standard, but at the discretion of the immigration office/official.

4 yrs ago I came on a Non 0, went to Immigration hoping to get a 30 day extension and walked out with 60 days. The immigration officer said to me "I give you 60 days, not for you, not for your wife, but for her" pointing at my 2 yr old daughter sitting on my lap.

Tip: if you don't a have a cute toddler, borrow one and bring to immigration :D
