Multiple O Any requirements?

Postby Koopa » August 11, 2009, 8:47 pm

Hi Guys,

I have a one year multi-entry Marriage Visa from the UK London.
I plan to go to Laos every 90 days or there abouts.
Can you please tell me,
Is there anything I am supposed to do, other than just go to Laos and come back?

ie, do I have to show or register where i'm living?
show any income or savings?
take my wife with me???
or anything else please?

Many Thanks..

Absolutely nothing Koopa.
The only requirements are really at the Laos side, where you need to fill in two forms, have 1 passport photo, & hand over the dosh.
When returning to Thailand you only need to fill in the entry/departure card. Do not forget to enter the visa number in the space provided & CHECK that they give you 90 days before you leave the Immigration Officer. Oh, I think that on enter Laos & Thailand at the minute you need to fill in a 'swine flu' document as well (nothing too onerous).
do I have to show or register where i'm living?

No, but you do have to fill an address of where you are staying on both the Thai & Laos documentation - but it could be ANYWHERE :D
show any income or savings

Absolutely not.
take my wife with me

Possibly cheaper if you do not!!! But that may lead to 'personal problems'. Duty free is worth a stroll around & I have yet to encounter a lady from anywhere that did not like shopping :D (There are a few places where you can have a coffee or beer while she indulges)
Do not forget if you visit Laos the day (or so) before the visa expires you can get as near as dam it 15 months stay out of that visa.. :D

The 12 month visa multiple entry visa has an expiry date 12 months after you get it. So, if you got one today it would have an expiry date of (about) 11th. August 2010. If you came immediately to stay in Thailand and only exited on a quick trip to Laos every 90 days then 4 stamps gets you to (more or less) the year & near the expiry date. If you then take another trip to Laos BEFORE the 11th. August expiry date then you will get another 90 days on return to Thailand - so giving you nearly 15 months stay on the visa....The rules of the multiple entry non Imm O say that you must leave Thailand every 90 days...

Thanks alot Bob,

That's the best bit of news i've had since i got here!
Why can't embassies give straight answers to straight questions like that?

Cheers,
Koopa.

One thing to remember is every time you get a Laos visa in your passport it takes up one full page.
So for a 5 time Multiple O thats 5 pages used plus the exit/entry stamps at the Thai border.
Just to be aware in case your passport is getting full.

You are aware that you can extend during the last 30 days of any entry for 1,900 baht if you have 400k in bank account two months or 40k per month income? That would eliminate any further need for travel/Laos visa expense.

The owner of the place you stay is required to inform Immigration of your presence. Hotels know about that but a wife might not (and probably will not do it) and she could face a fine at some point. This requirement is enforced, even if not completely. There are other requirements of reporting to local police that are not normally enforced.

Yes, I was going to do that this month, but I found out here that that then nullifies the multi-entry part of my visa, and I'd have to get re-entry permits! So I've decided to use my visa up first.
Maybe go somewhere else other than Laos sometimes.

This is what I was worried about.
I put on every bit of paper I've signed where I would be staying, but still because my wife hasn't informed anyone, we could have trouble!
So do you know what or where she has to do this please?
And should she say we've been travelling around until now?
I've been here 2 months already.

It is a TM30 form.
Rules here:
http://www.immigration.go.th/nov2004/en ... =alienstay
Downloadable form here:
http://www.superbangkok.com/forums/inde ... &#entry745

I would never suggest that anyone in Thailand breaks the law.
My understanding is that only Immigration require and check if this form has been filled in. Then only if you make certain requests to Immigration about them completing vehicle ownership or Thai driving licences paperwork. (& possibly if you request to change/extend at Immigration under the 400K baht rule)
If it were me :D . I believe I would carry on touring Thailand (especially areas like Chang Mai & the Islands) until after I had made my first 90 day trip out of Thailand. By then I would probably had enough of touring for a while so, being in Nong Khai, would drop by Immigration and your wife could then register your intention to reside with her from then on via the TM 30.
As far as I understand it has to be the owner of the land that does that - i.e. a person entered in the blue book against that property.

I thought the 400,000 baht in the bank rule, if you are married to a Thai has finished.
Was not the rule changed to 40,000 a month joint income?

The 400k annual income was reintroduced Nov 2008. Along with some other changes like the 40K a month income, it can't be dual income, meaning can't count on the wife/spouse income.

I thought it was a combo of income/bank balance for either marriage or retirement - so 400K/40K or 650K/65K. As lopburi3 suggested it as an option I would tend to think it can still be done... :D

I think the only way you can answer that question for sure is by doing it and seeing if your application is approved! or finding someone who has just done it recently.

I have looked into this long and hard, and from all the info I found, I believe you can still do it this way.
I'm sure on the visa extension application form from Nongkhai, it still had both options, and for the first time extension (only), the money has to have been in the bank for 2 months not 3 months.

I even put the money in the bank in readiness for applying for my extension this month.
But now I've changed my mind and am going to use the multi-entry part of my visa for now.
