Stopped by the Nakha Buri Resort today on my way back to Vientiane to take a look at the place. My curiousity has been piqued for months as I watched it's construction.
It's located on the west side of Rte 2, just south of Ban Nakha village about 12km north of the Udon ring road. The Resort has its grand opening tomorrow. The receptionist said, "Free food" tomorrow for the opening... Numerous workmen were scurrying around trying to finish everything before tomorrow.
We asked for and received a walk-about tour of the Resort. It's owned by a Thai businessman from Chiang Mai and built per the folks in reception in "Chiang Mai" style.. Look kind of Bavarian to me..
It's got 60 rooms total that are in two separate Hotel style wings fronting the pool and what looks like about a dozen bungalows of varying types around a fish pond. Glancing into the regular rooms in the two wings, they looked 5 Star quality. The place has a very large pool, a large and a small conference buildings, a massage center, and a large bar/restaurant/karaoke with a huge outside pavillion.
I asked the reception folks for a handout, but they had none.. they did claim to have an operational website which they wrote down for mehttp://www.nakhaburiresort.com but it won't come up..
Overall quite a beautiful place that obviously is going to take a while to work out the kinks..
Anyway, if you've got free time tomorrow (Sunday 25 March) go up and take advantage of their offer of free food for the "Grand Opening"...
