Naughty words.

Postby Galee » September 23, 2006, 1:38 pm

Why is it that so many words are censored on this Forum.?

I have just tried to use the words Bull and s**t together and the word was censored. It's a commonly used slang word, which I'm sure does not offend most people.

Obviously there are words that are offensive that cannot be used. If anyone were to use those words surely their whole message could be deleted by a mod?

If I were to read a message with obscene words in it before it was deleted, I wouldn't be offended or shocked. I would just think less of the person who posted it.

Gary.

P.S. I would just like to say, "**** ******* ***** ****** **** **** ******"

We have a banned word list that automatically replaces censored words with ****. I don't think a couple of censored words would justify removing the whole post.

Personally I have no problems with any slang, foul or vulgar language or swear words, and I would not get offended by any posts that contain it.

However this is an open forum that can be read by all age groups so this is why certain words are censored.

Bull and s**t together

wow. scary, just attempted same word today and came back only 4 stars instead of 8. unfortunitely, an uderstandable annoyance, as anyone, any age can read posts. although if you are a bit illiterate, or type as consistanly good as ray, the word might get by the software, although i would never tell someone how to abuse the loopholes, lol.

Its all rather interesting really because the word **** is now listed in the Oxford dict. I admit to using it myself on those occassions when I've hit my finger instead of the nail, after all shouting excretia really wouldn't have the same theraputic effect would it?As for the effect on the younger generation, when were you last in a school playground?

How interesting, it took it out but left excretia. So for now on it loooks like Bull excretia is the way to go.  I suppose it fits our image as an upmarket forum

Well you could, but English is the only permitted language on this forum. LOL

Sorry guys, but do we really need to use bad language to get our point across? That's just my personal opinion anyway.

its all a load of round spherical objects.

as for the school playground bit...(but in a supermarket)
only the other day i was in a super market and heard what must off been a 4 year old saying f$ck off to his brother, and on plenty of occasions you hear the foul mouth mother saying things like that to her own children, the kids must pick it up from someone to start with.

Lee,

No way is this thread meant to be a criticism of the forum. Just some light hearted banter.

No problems Galee, I understand that it's just light hearted banter.

I guess today I'm a little more serious than usual because I'm nursing a huge hangover. It must be that shot of Absinth last night that did it!, However I guess the cocktail of Red label, apple vodka and San Miguel beer didn't help either!

Thank you Lee for upholding the standards of the forum. There is no reason to use any words that others may find offensive.

It is funny though how this word "s**t" is used so often in Lao and Thai when it is combined with other words. For instance I could say " it sounds like you were really ki mao last night."

this still doesn't justify the acceptance of vulgar English words on the forum.

Hang in there.
