You could do no better than The Englishman's Retreat, IMHO, the price is right, the rooms are excellent, & you have a pool/Fitness centre!!! :D :D

Agree with Ralph Englishman's Retreat is a good choice.

Accomadation in Udon

Postby canuck-viking » May 1, 2008, 10:44 am

There are lots of places to stay in Udon. Do you want to be in town? When I had to stay in a hotel my wife and I stayed in the Udon Hotel. It was ok for the few days we were there. Others have recommended the The Irish Clock which is central to the mall and the night market. Yes I am one of the canucks here in Udon...Cheers

Yes I checked out that page, so many choices was hoping for some input from the board. I like swimming and the gym for execising. I will give them a call. Also is there a place around there where I could run on a suface other than pavement? Thanks for the info, I will check back in a couple of days.

pool time, hmm, if having transport or planning on renting motorbike, good value for a month of transport, get you int'l license before arriving. then nakhaburi resort is good, and president hotel also has decent pool and quiet areas. if not swimming laps and just want to cool off, udon thani thomas. not familiar with englishmans, but sounds nice. chareon and chareonski royal and napolai have pools, but i think that's about it.

I like BB Resort. Very clean. Quiet. Great pool and gym. Has a restaurant and bar. Bike and car rental. They will pick you up at the airport for 200bt. Near Nong Prajak Park and Udon Orchid Farm. Nong Prajak would be a good place to run.

I've stayed in the Napalai Hotel, Ban Chiang Hotel, Irish Clock, B&B Resort and will be giving Glyn a try at his place -- The Englishman's Retreat -- this go-round.

Each one has their pluses and minuses. I wouldn't hesitate to stay in any of them again. Costs, service and hygene were all rated "Good" and above.

before you actually pay and check in, do check out the rooms of course, but don't forget to check out the pool, make sure it is crystal clear, this way you'll get at least a week use out of it before it turns green   napolai, ban chiang, president and nakhabure resort have had any where from crystal clear to green, dark green water. water maintanence isn't well known or practiced here. actually only ban chiang and napolai went green, nakhaburi was a milky white one time, but clorine levels very high, and president was murky a bit. napolai was my place of choice for long term, but many years ago, never a problem then, but going there just for a swim past couple years had mixed reviews, same with swimming outings at ban chiang, usually very good, but one time, it couldn't get any greener.

orig owners are back, no food, and guessing, just guessing, pool maintanence may be lax. if not, my deepest apologies for my ASSumption. but stopped there after latest propietor left, new propietor didn't arrive, and owner seemed to be making sure all is still there, then back to koh chang for whatever, since no tenants. so good luck in contacting and renting

as i say, this is just my impression of conversationa and ASSumption of what to expect, for the month of april. things may have changed. was scouting places for a friend.
