Need help for our project, Please

Postby PearP » November 24, 2010, 9:54 pm

Hello,
I'm university student doing the project for in-house senior care service
(I'm actually in the same group as peachtnl)

Thank you for all the comments for our video, I really appreciated that.
It's a really good lesson for us.

Now, in our business plan, we have come up with 3 competitive advantages that we want to provide to our customers and that we think currently no one is offering them..

1. Community
What we plan to do here is that we will frequently hold different events and trips for the customers or just a tea party (hopefully once a week) so that or customers can meet new friends and so develop some kind of community in their area. With this we hope that our customers won't get bored and that they can enjoy their retirement life better.

2. Foreign Specialisation
This is basically to provide the customers with caregivers who can speak their languages and understand their culture well so that they won't turm them down. Then... we think people from different country have different life style and needs so we will study about that and provide each customer with activities and services that fit what they want the best.

3. Staff customisation
(This sounds a little weird) Basically, customers will be able to choose what characteristics they want their caregiver to have. e.g. languages (esp. English and Japanese) or other ability like cooking, etc.

I'm not really sure if these values do matter for customers....
i just feel that (i have actually read this from the text) our target customers, mainly Baby Boomers, think that their retirement is another beginning. you know... for them to explore the world and those kind of things...

Please tell me you opinions and if possible suggestions.
Thank you very much :)

sawasdee kap..sorry I missed your video so I am not sure whether this is a university student project, or a new venture being proposed. I think it is the first..anyway I am always up to give an opinion and ideas that might help..I am caring for my elderly parents ( mid 80s) at home. They dont want to go to a retirement complex. They want to live out their lives at home..I dont think it matters to much if you are a baby boomer or not, some of us want to travel until we drop, others like my parents hardly seem to want to leave the house..I guess it depends on your health. My parents did alot before even ran a senior cizitens club, where all the old dears could go any day of the week, play indoor bowls, line dancing, go on bus trips to places of interest, drink tea, read books from the little library..

however, when later when both of them fell over and broke thier hips, going out sort of fell by the wayside..and they sit around the house bored most of the time..papas eyes sight has gone so he cant read even with glasses, he cant shave homself, but his mind is still sharp, mama is happy but loosing her memory. I do the cooking, laundry, shopping and stuff, and a Filipino woman comes in three days a week to shower my parents, and another lady comes in one hour a week to clean the house..

I think your ideas are good..my father is fussy about who comes into the house and helps with care, but we dont get to choose who the people are as it is a government service, we cant only see what the caregiver is like, and if we dont like, ask for another one..so your idea of options is good ie. language, cooking..

yes people from other countries have different cultures, different beliefs, so if your intending to offer services that cover that then your staff needs to research that culture..for example, we dont sit on tables, touch other peoples heads ( unless in a fight), store toilet paper with food items, step over another person head if sleeping on the floor, etc etc...

It is nice to have someone who speaks the same language, as my mama loves to chat away to the shower / cleaner lady..they have no friends who come to visit so the cleaning lady gets an earful from my mama..papa disappears when they come..he is a proud man, was handsome and fit, but now can hardly walk, so his ego, his confidence needs reassurance or something...

I think the values you outline are important...in a caregiver business.. but I think you should consider what happens to a person once they are to old, and sick to explore the world as you think all baby boomers do..what about the bed ridden customers, the wheelchair customer, the blind and deaf......... sorry, just some ideas..hope something helps..good luck

maaka,
What you are saying is exactly right.
Actually our service is to provide non-medical care or basically like an assistance to seniors.
So, the caregiver will normally responsible for helping them with their daily life, like help them take a shower, make meals, do some light house works (if needed), accompany them to different places and those kind of things.
ANd there will also be activities for the senior to do at home and etc.
Then, those 3 things I have mentioned are what we think will add value to our services.

Thank you for your comment! I feel a lot better with my business plan now :D

A friend of was one of the senior Ajarns at Khon Kaen School of Nursing and they were developing a curriculum to train Thais in the basics of home care and support for the Overseas placements that are available for them.

Basically 24/7 carers to the elderly and physically disabled etc.

Europe was their target countries.

The need exists but, to what level I don't know.

I have watched an old man next door die in misery no one could help, they had no authority and many of us tried.

A lot of us have wives that are much younger and hopefully they will respond to our needs. But, in some cases I know it doesn't happen. I think your on the right track. But, I would recommend more research before starting.
