I didn't expect a cascade of answers to my question.....but thanks to all replies!

The photo is of a dam in Connecticut.....my brother took the photo and sent it to me. I was looking for a way to describe the effect. I think KB Tex hit it with his geotechnical engineering term: sheeting......so I'll go with sliding sheets of water cascading over the edge of a dam.

OT's been looking at the picture for three quarters of an hour waiting for something to come over the top. I'd call the thing boring unless something happens soon.

As the picture appears to be a dam” Spillway” the best I can think of would, rather boringly, be “cascading water overspill”.

Spillway i thought was an a engineered construction that was made to deal with the release of water by the dam technicians to prevent what is in the picture which I think is an overspill , plain and simple.
