Is that the one that they have spent the last couple of years preparing at Udon International Airport OT?

I think stattos talking about the dumped 747 orient left there.

First class looks nice at around 4 grand, Business class 2 and a bit grand, and everyone else between 750 and a 950 quid. OT will give the business class a go and if it's rubbish I can always upgrade for the return journey. Eva have got business class for less than 2 grand and it looks the same to me. However I need to check my bank balance first so economy looks more than likely, and OT's got a gold card with EVA so If I'm broke I can travel in economy with them and still abuse the lounges.

OT.......... \:D/

The Thai Air link refers to the A340 being "retrofitted":

The mind boggles, does that mean deckchair seating with aluminum bulkheads & fittings, multi-coloured pendant lighting and black & white TV's?!!

New Aircraft for LHR-BKK

Postby GEC » February 27, 2012, 4:18 pm

We are due to fly next week to Udon from LHR with Thai Airways and understand the baggage allowance is 20kg each case. Can anyone advise me if they are lenient with this allowance.
I seem to have it in my head that they would accept 22kg.max.
Maybe it's me and wishful thinking.....please somebody out there tell me that this is the case or do I have to re-pack!

Many thanks and pray I get the answer I'm hoping for...lol

Glen

p.s. We have kept to the max allowance of 7kg for our hand luggage.

Thai are normally lenient with a couple of extra kilos. We don't fly with any one else.
Join Thai Airways Royal Orchid Plus, with silver status you get 30kg allowance, and with gold another 10 kilos on top of that. Makes all the difference.

Just an update folks..we arrived okay with all our baggage...incl. the kitchen sink!
No problems with the weight, big cases were 22kg (accepted) and hand luggage 7kg, but they didnt spot the BIG bags on our backs!
We normally go home with one suitcase empty, so no problem there..

Thanks...Glen.

I've always wondered if someone has to pay storage fees on these abandonded dinosaurs. There is a 747 at an airport in upstate New York, that interestingly enough was formerly United flight 811 that blew out a cargo door, along with 8 passengers, shortly after leaving Honolulu bound for Auckland in Feb 1989. It successfully returned to Honolulu, was repaired, and sold to a middle eastern company, but eventually abandoned in NY.

Agree Prenders, returned a couple of days ago from LHR and then domestic yesterday to Udon, with same 42kg,in economy used my silver status, they did not bat an eyelid, blooody hansom.Plus airmiles to use for domestic flights in the future,Eva big rival for the direct flights but cannot use their airmiles for any domestic flights here so their loss.
Just check seatguru website before choosing a seat and to avoid the ones near the toilets.Still never understand, new planes still have smallish toilets, fatties will always struggle.Immigration desks at Swampy long queues though so not what you want after a long flight.

New Aircraft for LHR-BKK

Postby nickboyuk » April 2, 2012, 2:58 am

Did Thai for the 1st time in ages, usually do EVA, but Thai was cheaper in March. having the VOD made a different, love to fall asleep watching the movies.

In June booked again and for the 1st time booked flight to Udon at the same time with lastminute.com. As I am flying Udon to Bkk and then to LHR on the same day to come back do I have to check in again at Bkk or can i do it all at Udon and have the bags transferred.

thanks
