New car tax refund

Postby Galee » December 28, 2011, 12:19 pm

My wife is in the process of ordering a new car. She has been told that if the car is purchased by a first ever car buyer, the Government, under a car buying incentive, will refund the car tax at a later date.
Has anyone else heard this? I'm hoping it's not some sales pitch. A link to the appropriate Government department would be appreciated.

New car tax refund

I think someone has mentioned it on here before Galee. but I couldn't find the post.

It has been discussed on ThaiVisa & appeared in the BKK Post, so I think is genuine.
Better get your skates on with the buy if the 'rules' that are quoted in TV still apply though!!

New car tax refund

Might just be a ruse to get elected.
Remember the kids free laptops?
Then put on the back burner once in power, or a forthcoming excuse that the country is skint, due to circumstances beyond our control, eg. The flooding.

not all cars is included in the refund of 100 000 bath. Only smaller cars and some pick ups is accepted.
These days life seems pretty good and I eagerly look forward to the continuation!

New car tax refund

Postby Librarian » December 28, 2011, 5:01 pm

My wife (Nok) has also just ordered a new Mazda 2

we were told the scheme was changing , before , the tax refund payment would come in dribs and drabs (perhaps meaning monthly ) .. now it will come as a lump sum cheque from the government one year from the date of purchase.

2 different Mazda dealerships told us the same thing . all the paperwork for the tax refund will come through , and be dealt with , the dealer .

it pays to shop around also because interest rates range from 2.65% to 2.80% and not all include the 3000B+ plates and registration or film on the windows... this apparently is down to the finance company and not the dealer..
Mazda Racing (in house finance ) is better at free extras and cost than the non in house..

older models are slightly less in cost .. but have non alloy wheels and only 1 airbag instead of 2 .. etc etc . and if you factor in these extra costs to bring it up to the newer model specs .. older cars are ... more expensive

Ditto. And yes, agree the New Mazda 2 is a better purchase than the previous model. My wife tells me the Mazda dealer in the old Mitsubishi show rooms opposite the Chareon hotel, offered her the best deal?

New car tax refund

still after 2 years useless with directions -

only way i can think of describing where it was ( Noks at work and i,m babysitting ) is only one dealer offered finance through Mazda Racing rather than a company i or Nok had ever heard of .. ( i,ve used Thanachat and Tisco previously for Thai car purchases and it wasnt one of them ) although 2.65% against the 2.8% isnt much really

in the showroom there was a green mazda 2 and a dark grey but i think both were auto and we wanted a white manual .

finance through Mazda Racing included the 3200 registration fee ( paid by the finance company) and window tint i think paid by the dealer .. this was for a 545k 1500cc white manual Mazda 2 with alloy wheels , remote central locking and 2 airbags

the auto model , normally 580k had all of the above .. but the grey one i mentioned earlier was 570k .. ( reason was an older model , non alloys and only 1 airbag )

a customer bought a Mazda 2 about 6 months ago and got lots of freebies and extras - this has stopped .. both dealerships said the floods have given them increased sales as similar models are in short supply...

bottom line for me - a new car costing 440k after rebate , rated highly by independant reviews and quite smart looking is a bargain.. our original plan to buy a used car for around 400k in the new year made our choice to switch to new , with the total piece of mind you get from buying new was made by this government scheme.. it worked for us

however , this is Thailand and IF , we get the 100k rebate when we should i will be mightily surprised .. ( although if we do get it , i promised Nok we would go to the Uk for a few weeks holiday with Oliver ) there goes my savings ;)

New car tax refund

Thanks for the info. I think my wife is too far down the ordering process to look elsewhere. She's happy, I'm happy, IF, as you say we get the refund. :D

New car tax refund

Postby Librarian » December 29, 2011, 12:15 pm

just an update -
our new car is arriving within the hour - using Mazda Racing ( a division of Tisco ! ) ( took basically 24 hours )

free 3200 reg , free 40 and 60% window film , quality rubber/cloth mats and 500 baht of fuel .. an alarm system as an extra ( less than 4000 ) not much in the way of free extras . ( other company wanted 7800 for alarm )

there is only 1 credit bureau in Thailand ( as opposed to at least 3 in the UK , experian, equifax etx )

the dealer was able to access Noks offer of finance from another company and offered to match it initially , i got Nok to explain we would use the 1st offer we had if the new dealer couldnt give us something more .. ( i mention this because you may tell the new dealer you were offered say , 2.0 % from another dealer in order to get a good rate , but he CAN check ! )

Tisco came round to our business this morning and asked to look at the accounts .. but couldnt read them as they are all in English .. ( first call came at 7.30 am this morning , i,m guessing because they didnt want us to sign on the 1st deal we had ) when couldnt read the aaccounts , decided not needed  ( had about 20+ customers in this morning eating breakfast when they arrived )

age is a factor ( Tisco prefer over 25 years old )

but our deal shows the flexibility finance companies have when assessing an application , and also knowing we were approved from another company as well , they knew they would lose the sale if they didnt meet us part way .

they tried asking for 30% down but we wouldnt budge at 25% ..
they tried asking for a Udon based guarantor .. we said we didnt need with the other company so wouldnt offer one for them either .

Noks tabian bahn is Bangkok .. ( she inherited from her father , land and house ) which was raised by the finance company as a possible issue ( credit not applied for in home province ) but proved not an issue

thats about all the info i have .. hope someone finds it useful
