New hotels & guest houses in Udon Thani

Post by michaleo » April 19, 2010, 10:21 am

I would like to introduce you to another tiny little hotel, the N-Dee Guest House, located just in front of the parking of the Panjavej Inter Hospital on 83/14 Wattananuwong Road.

Image

When I tried to get a room in Top mansion unfortinately this was full.
In fact it is close to the bars of day and night and nuttypark, to the nightmarket and to the railwaystation.

Image

Seen from outside the hotel doesn’t look spectaculary, in contrary, it is even difficult to make a nice picture of it.

Image

Sometimes in life it is important to see the backside.

Image

There are only ten rooms, a bar, and one room with a billiardtable. But when I slept there, the bar was closed, no guests, said the lady that hires it. She runs another restaurant with resort not far away and I think to do both is perhaps a bit to much. Unfortunately she will give up the N-Dee Hotel and the owner will continue to run it. Perhaps he will change the name, I don’t know, but I am sure the hotel itselves will not be dislocated, so you will find it at the same address.

Image

I were impressionated by the stairways that brings myself to the room.

Image

I suppose that if the bar is opened and there are a lot of customers and bargirls it could be a romantic alternative to come a bit closer around the stairs.

Image

We don’t realise it all the time, but around the hotel peaceful cows are browsing, what became seldom in a world of browsing people in the internet.

The most exiting thing of this hotel is: rooms are extraordinary large.
This one is 650 baht.

Image

This one, that I took, as well, but the prices are between 550 and 800 baht.

Image

The sight of my room goes to the hospital and its parking, of course, but also we see the roof of day and night, top mansion, centara and even central plaza. Very nice to sleep in the night with open curtains.

Image

The bathroom is OK with it’s nice colours, the room is clean and as far there was nothing to complain.

Image

It may be that for some guests the room is even to large, but never mind, besides we find the black butterfly bar and on the other side of the road there is the country bar and the nikita.
But this picture was taken in the M & m - Bar, Day and Night.
I am sure there will be found someone to fill up the room, but it is not a condition.

YesBob, I would recommend this hotel, if the Top mansion is full.
It costs 180 Baht more than Top Mansion, but what is that compared to other things in life?

Oh, you are more fast than me. I wasn't yet finished. I stayed there the days before yesterday, the prices are mentionned now and I hope for the hotel that the next manager will make something out of it. The bar would have been nice and you could make an interesting coffee for breakfast.

At least i would, if it were mine :-k

I think this used to be "City Lodge" michaleo.
Originally built & owned (not sure now) by the same guy who owns The Irish Clock - so built to a similar standard & large room size.
It, sadly went downhill I believe because of poor management - something that is hard to turn around when new & good managers take over - so ended up with a very poor reputation while the Irish Clock went completely the other way once Steve & Mali took over.
I have never stayed there but am told that the stairs suggest it is not the place to stay at if you intend to over indulge in alcohol. :D I always thought that the bar was particularly attractive in a sort of 'Old Colonial' style.
It certainly looks attractive enough again now - I wish the current manager good luck, the prices being bandied around for running the place seemed very high to me for somewhere that had a very, very poor reputation & would have involved a lot of hard work to turn it back around.

Oh, I am sorry for that house.
The lady that runs it now didn't tell me that.
She said that she pays 55'000 baht rent for the whole house and that she doesn't get that out of it, so she decided to stop on the end of this or next month.

But at the moment it is difficult to identifie that this building is a hotel.

If I would run it ( I'm a dreamer) I would as first hang a much bigger shield with the name, probably for example something oldfashionned like "chez michel" or something like that, that you can see from far. Or better two shields.
Than, of cource, I would make enough advertisement in udonmap =D>
In the bar I would sell italian coffee, croissants, croque-monsieur and sandwich made from baguettes. Well at least this is something I did not find in that area the few days I was there.

Yes, you are right, Bob, it is, I found it over google in "Travelfish" City Lodge:
*The City Lodge, conveniently located a short walk from Udon Thani train station is simply outstanding value. If you're looking for a small place to stay rather than one of the large hotels then look no further than the City Lodge. The air-con rooms here are immaculate -- kitted out with comfortable beds, TV, IDD phones and fridge and the more expensive rooms are massive. Downstairs is a very good restaurant that does splendid western breakfasts along with lunch and dinner. Staff are very friendly, helpful and English speaking. Recommended.

*Good value budget hotel, 500B a night, clean spacious room with endless hot water and tea/coffee making facilities. One of the staff had excellent English, and all were friendly and helpful. Near all the bars and handy for the train station and the (old) bus station. No complaints about staying here. The City Lodge reviewed by peppermintpaddy on 19th June, 2009.

*Great room, friendly staff - 9th March, 2009
Close to bus, train, night market, mall. I paid 600B for a room at top, nice views, fridge, TV, free water, windows on 2 sides, a/c. Staff were friendly, food was okay but I ate out mostly. The City Lodge reviewed by bormanator on 9th March, 2009.

*Very good value - 2nd January, 2006
At 500B, what can you expect? Friendly staff, really good Western breakfast. Yum yum. Walking distance to major shopping mall. I was quoted by the owner (young guy) a superior room for 700B. Staff all speak good English. The City Lodge reviewed by garethsekai on 2nd January, 2006
But in July 2008 Gary A wrote in Thaivisaforum:
I'd forget about the City Lodge. Just a few weeks ago the food was hardly edible. Apparently it has changed hands and the chef is no longer there.

Probably it was just to show my pic's :D
No, honestly, I would take a room in N-Dee again, even if the name has changed.

But, of cource, I found really one hotel on the map of udon-map that I wanted to go to see, just because of the name: the hotel 69.

Image

I wondered why ist is called 69 and came on the idea that number has to do with the time, that lots of americans were in Udon Thani, in the years of the american part of the vietnam war, mainly the sixties and seventies.

Image

So I imagined that if you drive a car of this time you certainly must love that car very much, as, why shouldn't you drive a pick up as all the other farang do in Issan?

Image

So far I think if you are on the road with this ford capri from 1969 and you look for a hotel you certainly take a room where your car is safe.

Image

In the hotel 69 your car can sleep right besides you and that is of main importance for certain people, I suppose.

Image

The room for the driver ist most colourful and has even a TV and an aircon.

Image

The room is for one night baht 300. Day and night safety is garanteed by a hard looking dog and his owner.

Image

If I would recommand to take a room in this hotel?

No, probably not for the driver.

But for his car. ;)

Just besides the hotel 69 there is a hotel called ban ying.
But don't be afraid, I didn't take pics and ^didn't think about that name.

Not sure if you're joking or not, but Hotel 69 is a short time hotel. Typically booked for those discreet rendezvous with the mia noi or geek (sp). In the 4th picture, see the red tarp hung behind the car, it's not there to protect it from the elements.

Not sure the owner of the car would have been very happy if he had seen you taking a picture of it , either . [-X

And, if you are greedy and get a couple of well fit birds thrown in, it will cost you 2500 baht a night. However the fat ugly birds come in much cheaper - so I believe.

Yes i can concur fat ugly birds are considerably cheaper - i know you guys are gonna find this hard to believe but when pienmash looks in a mirror stripped off and full of piss its not a pretty sight the lass deserves a medal as well as the big 500 for the full service .

OT pukes up, which puts the well fit birds off a little bit, and inflates the service price a bit as well i should think.

getting back on subject, that place the OP is talking about is the city lodge which was for sale at B 10m a year or so ago.
If you can rent the place for 55k a month there is plenty of potential IMO, providing you can get a long lease and you know what your doing. It's got 10 rooms for rent. The bar and restuarant could do a lot better as well, on top of that do all the other things like motorcycle rental and open a gogo with a VIP section, and you will have a full house.

OT....... \:D/

OK, I was just joking a bit.

Short time costs Baht 140, he told to me. What means a "geek (sp)" for you?
In the dictionary is written "computerfreak, intellectual" and I don't think you mean that.

it actually translates to more like Gik from Thai . In England we would normally say " a bit on the side "" A bit of spare'
and the hotel would be called " A knocking shop"

These places are called Love Hotels, also popular in Japan, the tarpaulin pulled across the parking bay is to stop prying eyes clocking the number plate.
Some love hotels are basic like the one shown. Some have facilities like themed rooms, love chairs, mirrors, sex toys, and pornos either by DVD's or piped on the TV.

I'd say a knocking shop is more your massage parlour type operation where "extras" are available.

In Okinawa JA, there was one (maybe more) that was fully automated. Drive up, enter credit card info, drive into parking garage, park car and room connected to garage. Never have to speak to any hotel personnel, very discreet. Also available were vending machines loaded with sex toys, videos, lube & condoms.

I heard there are more short time hotels besides Hotel 69??
