They have no business in my house. We can talk in the driveway -- or in their office.

Thanks, I think I understand now. I am here on a one year Business visa so I would not 'extent' (maybe).

So to make my question more clear: what is required for the second year/second time/extension of your marriage visa?

As far as I know, the same list of documents is required.

It appears that the same requirements are imposed by Udon Immigration despite the number of extensions previously made.

I was told one, but I'm bringing two.

Up to you but one is only required, went recently for my 4th extension based on marriage and this time was requested the extra info, having called into the office a month ago to ask.First officer at the desk went through all my paperwork and then placed it on the big bosses desk who then interviewed our friend, then the application had to go to a third officer,I believe the Under Boss who then signed off the application.Strange the underboss did not do the interview then the big boss signs it off but then this is Udon immigration for you.
What annoys me is that they confirmed that when my renewal is due next year, that I have to do the same again, witness, photos, map, what a waste of time, surely the first time you ever have to do this, confirms everything.
And am sure they did call around the other day to my house to check my Thai written map was accurate.

These seem to be the current requirements at Udon Imm.

This whole thread is seriously screwed up by unclear or wrong terms, starting already in the first post, claiming 'extension' but talking about initial application.

FB, please clarify if this (your) list is really valid for extension, or if extension is then a more simpler process. Thank you.

Its fairly simple to understand I would have thought, it was a 12 month extension of the initial "o"type visa based on marriage to a Thai national. Wether the 1st application for extension or the 1o th, the same information is required. I really fail to understand where the confusion lies.

Thanks again. FB, I would not call something an 'extension' if what you get is something new or different, but anyway - the point for me is that I refrain from performing this ridiculous procedure and paperwork EVERY YEAR again. First year - ok, but second and so on should be easier IMHO. I just get me a new Business Visa and let them fool themself...

I'm right with you on that one Tex, if they ever come around asking to see inside my abode they better have a search warrant.

Or an extradition order in case you don't let them in. :-"

I get the impression that you think that the rule of law prevails here!My impression is that if they want to search your house or look inside, they will and you won't be able to stop them!

Alternatively, they may not bother looking around, choosing instead to adjourn back to the office and immediately cancel your visa/extension.

I know which I would prefer.

Had my first experience of the process yesterday applying for my first Marriage Visa
There was only one officer on the front desk and the whole process took 3 hours
I fell short on the money in the bank - I had a couple of million in last year but after buying a house and car I have a current balance of 340,000. The application was still processed and he commented "I would probably get a 60 day permit only. Giving me time to sort my finances out"
I already dropped in and confirmed I only needed one witness
I have a friend in the same village and he has had a home visit from Immigration
A couple of points
1) Its worth a pre-visit to pick up a couple of of TM 7 forms as they have the required photo size on them and you can fill them in at your leisure
2)They only wanted the used pages copied of the passport
3) There is a document check list available for the process ( written in Thai )
Where I fell short of a couple of photocopies they kindly done them for me without charge.
Overall a pretty tedious afternoon but the staff were very helpful - I have to go back in 4 weeks to get the result.
Check List - amended after visit
1) 2 No Application forms original (TM 7 ) and photos

2) 2 Copies of applicants passport showing used pages

3) 2 Copies of marriage certificate

4) 2 Copies of wife's ID card

5) 2 Copies of wife's House registration book ( green book) showing her registration

6) 2 Copies of childs birth certificate

7) 2 Copies showing child house registration

8) Witness to attend for interview to verify relationship

9) Wife to attend for Interview

10) Proof of income - 400,000 currently in a Thai Bank with confirmation letter from bank and 2 copies of British Embassy letter regarding pension and Thai translation

11) 2 copies of a map to house in Thai

12) 2 sets of house photos with residents - selection offered for choice

I think you forgot something Micky.
I heard you had to take your own 'hoops' and jump through them whilst being interviewed. :D

All in, I would guesstimate this one year marriage visa at at least US$500 per year.
Considering embassy trips and letters, bank certifications (current account and annual deposits), multiple reporting trips, photos, processing fee, time value of multiple witness days...

For a thousand bucks you can get a full blown US 10 year multiple entry, work as you wish, no reporting...

Someone tell me again how wonderful and accommodation Thai Immigration is.... I seem to have missed something the last few thousand explanations.

This is really disgraceful.

Hi Texpat, would like to know what 10 year multi-entry visa you are referring to here.

Another development - my pal went to the office last week to renew his marriage visa and he also fell foul of the finance trap, he had the required money in the bank (400,000 baht) but it had not been in the bank for the required 2 months
They are going to give him a 2 month extension and he has to re-apply in 2 months time, for another 1900 baht
So to recap:-
You need to have 400,000 baht in your account at the time of your application and it must have been deposited in your Thai bank at least 2 months before
