Last year I applied for for a retirement visa and was refused on insufficient annual income. The Immigration officer suggested the 'marriage visa', which I successfully applied for.
This year I went to renew my marriage visa (same income situation) and was advised to apply for a retirement visa which means less hassle for me (and the Immigration Office) as all the additional photocopying/photos and witness statements are unnecessary for onward transmission to Bangkok.
Note
1) The loss of my Immigration entry slip from Laos was not a problem and a request for a copy from my last visa application was not taken up
2) They kept the original 'Proof of Income' letter from the British Embassy
3) The Q card system is flawed - as people leaving the office return their cards and anyone coming in can pick theirs up and will be able to innocently jump the Queue. So make a note who comes in after you.
4) I had 400,000 Baht in the bank for 2 months and proof of income - the same as last year.
