New Married Visa - Udon Thani

Postby mickydee » July 25, 2011, 7:23 am

Last year I applied for for a retirement visa and was refused on insufficient annual income. The Immigration officer suggested the 'marriage visa', which I successfully applied for.
This year I went to renew my marriage visa (same income situation) and was advised to apply for a retirement visa which means less hassle for me (and the Immigration Office) as all the additional photocopying/photos and witness statements are unnecessary for onward transmission to Bangkok.
Note
1) The loss of my Immigration entry slip from Laos was not a problem and a request for a copy from my last visa application was not taken up
2) They kept the original 'Proof of Income' letter from the British Embassy
3) The Q card system is flawed - as people leaving the office return their cards and anyone coming in can pick theirs up and will be able to innocently jump the Queue. So make a note who comes in after you.
4) I had 400,000 Baht in the bank for 2 months and proof of income - the same as last year.

New Married Visa - Udon Thani

Postby Ricohoc » July 27, 2011, 6:24 pm

Married visa extension was a breeze.

Finished with all of my paperwork within 10 minutes (had filled out the TM7 at home ahead of time). No questions asked on any of it. The income letter from the US Embassy was accepted without question. The next 35 minutes were spent completing the witness statement, fixing a computer glitch, laughing and talking and stamping and signing.

The hand-drawn map was provided with both Thai and English, and the photos (4) were printed in color on two sheets of photo paper from the printer with my name and passport number in the top left corner.

Brought exact amount of 1900 baht.

In and out in 45 minutes total.

One thing that was different than last year was that the officer didn't want the copies of blue books or birth certificates of step children, and didn't want all of the stamped pages of the passport. The only passport page copies kept was the photo page and the stamped pages relative to my last entry and last Non-Immigrant O.

I'll still bring it all and more next year. You never know what's going to happen. It might even be different tomorrow. :D
