No more TM47 for 90 day report at Nong Khai

Postby Sateev » December 19, 2011, 11:28 am

Took my wife to Nong Khai Immigration for her 90 day report, and was told we didn't have to fill out the form. Just handed her passport to the officer, he asked our house address number and telephone number, fiddled with a scanner and the computer, and printed out a new receipt and next reporting date. Seems they are modernizing things a bit. Good for them.

Also, I noticed the complaint/feedback box was no longer on the pillar in front of the entire staff of IOs; it was moved to the lobby. Now, if you have a complaint, you can lodge it without fear of reprisal.

The loon was still there, loud and obnoxious as usual, but she couldn't be bothered with a 90 day report. She asked what we were there for, and after I said "90 day report", and approached her desk, she told us to go sit down and wait. Thailand's finest.

No more TM47 for 90 day report at Nong Khai

About time and a step in the right direction.
All a bit Heath Robinson at the moment, must be cupboards full of bits of paper stuffed with TM47 forms.
I wonder how long it will be when we see this in Udon.
This could easily be digitized.
The Yellow book could easily be made into a ID card for those who have Retirement, Spouse visas.

My dear Parrot are you saying you had to complete a form TM47 or are you saying that the 'form' refers to the same procedure as experienced at Nong Khai. :D

So now we have stepped out of the 19th century into the 20th, OK so now what happens to those of us who send in our report by post? Won't be happy with this necessity until we can do our reporting on line and this becomes a 21st century experience.

No more TM47 for 90 day report at Nong Khai

Same as Steve for me in NK.

I grabbed a form and new young man stopped me, saying "no need" -- he typed away a bit, snapped my photo with his webcam (!), then printed out the new report form.

(Soon the form baskets may even be gone!) I was rather breathless. Mr. Happy flashed me a smile.

Even the Avon Lady was half-hearted in her attempt to sell me some cheap bling. I smiled back.

Nong Khai, on the cutting edge as always. One day Udon, one day...
