Nobi's is a German/European Restaurant located opposite Top Mansion (Map Ref P11). They're open from 8am - 12pm daily and serve fresh breads and cakes, german sausages, European cheeses, BBQ pig daily plus buffet and european breakfast. They are also an agent for German sausages, food and drinks in the Issan area.

Had breakfast there (the day after their opening party, so maybe not the best timing :D ).
It was a typical Northern European breakfast, so bread (two different types), cheese (again two types), sausage (4 different types) and salad. Bit expensive for some @ 170 baht, without coffee, but very good quality food. Nobi told me that he is in the process of making his own sausages, but that is probably a month away due to the smoking process.
I will certainly go back from time to time.

Well it does sound like it's the Nong Khai Nobbi if he's going to be making his own sausages...but his schnitzels were better ;)

I was under the impression yhat he went to Surin as well :?

It is the same Nobi that previously owned the Pink Pig on Tehan Road. From what I heard, he lost that place and his pig farm in a divorce.

Don't know if he has been associated with NK in the past - but since there are comments about his personality - then I suspect that he would be the same one. :D

The restaurant changed ownership last year. The knew owner used to work in Sweden and needed something to do after retirement. He is not a knew face to Nong Khai since he did run the shop for a month or so while Nobbi was away.

Nobbi did move to Surin into a new place near (left of) railway station. (No, its not the Farang Connection).
He is still making sausages and smoked meet, selling to several shops around Nong Khai, Udon Thani or elsewhere in Thailand. Since many years he is also making some import business with deli’s, beers, and there like. He also still selling coffee making machines.

Since many years he is still together with his gorgeous long-time partner Noi. Nobbi did not farm pigs.

I believe that we are talking about two different Nobis then.

The Nobi that I am talking about did own the Pink Pig and did have a pig farm. He also had one son. He is now divorced and living with a different girl.

Yes Doc, you where right. It's a different person. Sorry.

Nobbi, who went to Surin used to one of the Farang pioneers in Nong Khai. He must have established his first restaurant there about 25 years ago if I remember correctly. He had one before he moved the previous place which he sold last year.

It used to a lovely spot, just above the Mekong River with sweeping unspoilt views into Laos.

I always liked his charming rustic way but his good food and wide choice of imported beers.

He went away from Nong Khai since he never could get warm with Vietnamese people and increasing number of businesses they where setting up around him. The disliking was on both sides.

I believe he didn’t notice progressing changes at the right time. He might have had problems planning well ahead. All he was looking for was a small income, something to keep him busy and his peace.

I’ve mentioned to him several times to raise his bum and get his ideas working.

Noi was more flexible on all this. She sometimes rolled her eyes and did her share to directing him slowly into new views.

I so really wish him well with his new business in Surin. The base is well prepared and it looks like he happier all together there.

His ex-wife is still running the Pink Pig place but not with much success because Nobi took away all the equipment.

Don't think that the restaurant was all that successul even before he departed the premises. The biggest portion of business I believe was selling fresh pork at the front of the restaurant.

I have eaten there twice. Very good Brats and they come with home fries that are incredible. As mentioned it's a little pricy, but the Brats are huge. =D>
