Nutritional Supplements for health and weight loss

Postby rct » March 10, 2011, 10:24 am

Didn't see a topic on this, thought I'd share a positive experience.

Two months ago my wife, with new found free time as both kids started school, became involved with her friend selling Unicity nutritional supplements (MLM business, like Amway). I could not find any negative information on the net regarding their products, other than they seem relatively expensive. At age 50 I had never been on a diet or taken anything special, though to be sure I have gained weight over time, seems like one kg per year over the past decade, all around my middle.

Intending to go along and be supportive (regardless of cost as long as within reason) for first 2 weeks I took BiosLife before each breakfast and lunch, plus drank Nature's T detox tea each night before bed. This tea seemed very effective to cleanse the body. Starting at 101 kg, I lost nearly 3 kg, motivating me to keep going.

Thinking the first kgs are probably the easiest to lose, and feeling motivated, I ramped it up by replacing the evening meal with their drink called "Lean Complete" (not yet distributed in Thailand, someone hand carries it in from Singapore, I had to ask for it after net research) and still taking BiosLife before breakfast and lunch. Note I continue to eat copious breakfast and lunch, and same as always exercise (not more) by walking 30 minutes per day around Nong Prajak, though did eliminate snacks between meals. My total weight loss in two months is now 8 kg. Futher benefits include lower blood pressure and cholesterol, among others.

My wife lost 5-6 kg shedding almost all the weight she gained over two pregnancies. Am not sure she'll make any money in the MLM side, never mind, we are feeling healthier.

Am concerned about regaining weight due to flights and business travels each month, we'll see. Having never lost weight, I believe this has been an effective strategy and thus worth sharing. Am not sure I'd keep going long term with due to costs, we'll see what happens when I go off the products, if maintain lower weight or start getting it back.

I know some folks will say it's a waste of money and just go exercise more intensively - let it rip.

Anyone have good or bad experiences with Unicity or similar products?

Having had the same experience with weight gain over the past 20 years, I'm wondering how much this costs.

I'd also like to know how to give your wife some business if the costs are reasonable.

Nutritional Supplements for health and weight loss

Since i went in hossy for a check up a few weeks ago the docs put me on a strict diet which i have stuck to 100 %. This consisted of steamed/boiled fish or chicken , vegetables , fruit and water only as a drink. added to this ive been havind a clorophl health drink that my missus makes n sells in the shop , i thort this was a " Thai thing " but i certainly works and tastes dam good too.....ive lost 12 + kgs and feel a lot better generally.

My point being the only way to loose weight IMO is to eat less and eat different healther foods , its about willpower and nessesaty , i needed to loose weight for a operation or it would mean serious concequences, as for the willpower bit .....bloody hard when you are surounded by bacon butties and cakes all day .

The way im feeling now is more than payback for the sake of a fryup etc , the only help has been the breif use of a slimming agent tablet to reduce the hunger feeling for about a week and my missus has been brilliant cooking stuff for me.

Easy to put on but dam hard to get off.

mash......... now down to his perfect shaggin wieght , a lean clean sausage purveying machine.

Not a weight loss product, but I had problems with a protein shake that I use to take. Shortly after getting married the wife thought it best to look after her little darling  by giving me protein shakes twice a day. Initially, I felt great and maybe put on a little bit of muscle, but over a period of time I started to get really bad stomach ache, resulting in hardly any sleep due the discomfort. After about 6 months I was starting to get worried about something serious being wrong so went off to the Bummengrad in Bangkok. They top and tailed me and said they couldn't find anything wrong.
I decided to stick to a bland diet, just Western food that I was use to and cut out the protein shakes. Within a few weeks my stomach was better. I'm 99% sure the protein shake was the cause of my problem although I still have an occasional problem with a spicy Thai dish.

Nutritional Supplements for health and weight loss

Postby Lao-miner » June 4, 2011, 8:20 am

good info mr pie n mash i would be interested to know what this slimming aid tablet is that stops the hunger pangs and where to get it , my cholesterol is high i have hypertension and high triglycerides , i reckon ive made a start in the right direction by stopping the 10 daily beers after work ,i will try to keep this up as i feel the piss is 90% of the problems i am having. i am eating less meat and more veggies and as much fruit as i can get my hands on another problem is i work on a mining camp in Laos and the food is laid on 3 times a day (cooked meals) which makes it bloody easy to over indulge , but as you have rightly pointed out its will power that will make or break the plan, i havent smoked in over 12 months so i reckon i might just have enough will power to see it through, having said that it was when i quit the smokes that the weight started piling on , but at least i dont cough my lung up every morning now , oh and i am also a chronic gout sufferer a condition thats definately linked to my lifestyle , hopefully when the weight goes so will all these other ailments . ive no plans to give up drinking the beerlao on a permanent basis coz its great stuff just long enough to get these afflictions sorted out possibly in a few months or so. After all this i am hoping to be as fit as a mallee bull The damsels wont be safe i reckon , lock up your daughters woo hoo

Lao miner .... i will pm the details of the tabs i used to get me started and reduce the hunger pangs etc. as i lost the weight my other irritating other ailments diminished , in general i feel a lot better , ive finished the tabs now but one side effect was they gave me a big boner on has remained so much so i went out n bought my missus a wheelchair .
Your life style will make dieting easier or more difficult , wasnt ,isnt easy for me as im in the shop surrounded by grub and the aromas that go with it but this was down to my health and living longer so that became my mindset so i understand you predicament with your present job and eating routine and no doubt the banter from workmates.

good luck .

the best way to lose weight is to eat more servings a day but small portions around 5 to 6 meals a day.stay away from the starchy foods ie pasta.potatoes.white rice,if you are going to eat these foods make there not at night time.
breakfast eggs on toast multigrain.
3 hours after breakfast
couple of pieces of fruit
3 hours later
lunch salad roll with tuna or chicken, try to stick to grain breads as they release energy slowly and keeps you full for longer.
3hours later
you can eat a salad or fruit or a omelete
3hours later
your dinner should consist of lean meat or fish or chicken with vegetables if you need potatoe have sweet potatoes.
like pienmash said your favoured drink should be water, you also should give yourself 1 day off a week to eat the foods you want and drink, losing weight is 75 percent diet and 25 percent exercise.
in my opinion you can get all the supplement you need from the foods you eat,you can not get results from a tablet.

Nutritional Supplements for health and weight loss

Postby FrazeeDK » June 5, 2011, 7:25 am

pound of fat + approx. 3000 calories.

averaage calories required to maintain one's current weight + 11-13 calories per pound depending upon your level of physical activity. So at my current weight of around 185 pounds I must eat 2,220 calories worth of food per day just to maintain that weight..

So, losing or gaining weight is all about less calories in (modifying diet) or more calories out/burned (exercise) or a combination of both.

So, in my case if I mildly moderate my diet by trimming say 400 calories a day off my food intake (drop that Cornetto chocolate cone) and increase my physical exercise with a 50-60 minute brisk walk a day (expending about 400 calories) I can lose roughly 2 pounds a week.

I don't need to buy 1500 baht "health drinks", I don't need to starve myself, just watch my intake a bit, and don't need to become a physical fitness freak (although that probably would be a good thing)..

If I overindulge in eating at a meal, I can balance it with 2 extra hours of brisk walking or other exercise...

It's all a pretty simple concept.. Of course best practices are eating "healthier" portions of vegetables and fruit, and less high fat or sugar input as well as watching the empty calories of alcohol (yes Beer Lao is mighty good). But, you don't have to be perfect in your pursuit of lower weight just practic a little less "in" and a little more "out"....

Oh, understanding these simple concepts is great, applying them more dificult.. The truth is I don't practice what I know and always plan to get to it sometime in some hazy future...!!

Nutritional Supplements for health and weight loss

Postby olanchubby » July 17, 2011, 2:01 pm

Great post about Nutritional Supplements for Health and Weight Loss. I believe that, still the most effective way to lose weight is natural way of having proper diet and regular exercise. In terms with nutritional supplements, nowadays the "Brand" factor is very important to considered. Much give prioritize those who've already popular or had a name on Supplement Business like Nordic Naturals for Omega 3 Fish Oil Supplement or the Maxalife for Multivitamins. I believe also that everyone of us should take at least one supplement to support our health and body needs for much better healthy life.
